Hello everyone,

New guy here and S&W fan. I saw on this forum that Andy Horvath is very close to where I live and a very good gunsmith. I have a 642 that is giving light primer strikes and also a target rifle I would like the stock bedded on. All I can find is he works on revolvers but my buddy said he used a gunsmith in Lagrange Ohio that did custom rifle work also. Just wondering if anyone here has used Mr. Horvath recently and has any info on the work he does.

Thank you!

Google his phone number, he has no website. Call about 9 am or 4pm. He is a one man shop and *usually* will return a call if you leave a message. He doesn’t say much, is reasonable on his work. Used him 6-7 times, not sure how many months behind he is. Last I heard is 3-6 months. Surprised no local gunsmith can help you. BMT on Pearl has a gunsmith. Where do you live??

I am in Elyria. Do you know if he does Rifle work? I found a number and contact info but figured do some digging before I turn firearms over to a stranger. I have used B&T at the old location on pearl twice for very minor work and they were great! My uncle attempted to disassemble his HD shotgun and locked the action up and it wouldn't cycle. B&T fixed it in 10min for very, very cheap. Years later I had the bolt on my rifle stop extracting or ejecting rounds and he fixed it for me for pretty cheap. I don't know if they do rifle bedding or revolver work though. When I told a few buddies how he fixed the bolt and shotgun they said he's not an actual gunsmith steer clear, so I kind of steered clear of them now.

I think the shop is Diagonal Rd gunshop. He has been around forever. He is older and one of the great gunsmiths of the era. He works on rifles and has done custom handguns for decades. He will be missed when he retires and we are lucky he is so close. He built 2 Custom .32 K frames for me. He is Known all over the US for his work. He worked on handguns that belonged to famous gun writers for many years. Last year he reamed a 16-4 .32 mag cyl to .327, most gunsmiths wouldn’t do that. Larry

Andy Horvath has been gunsmithing for decades with very little advertising. He made a good career converting M28s from 357 to 44 Special or 45 long Colt. He has worked on several firearms for my family. Unfortunately, he is not getting younger.

Thanks for the information. I took a ride a few weeks ago and saw a sign in a front yard on Diagonal and Webster I believe it was that said buckeye sports and something about guns. I was wondering if that was it. I will give Mr. Hovarth a call because my EDC S&W 642 gives very light primer strikes at times and will not fire when it does so. Other times it will give very hard and large primer strikes and will fire. S&W CS gave me a hard time about sending it in for repair and a long turn around time.

Just a quick thought on turnaround time, I would not expect any gunsmith that is competent to be turning a firearm around quickly. These guys are busy all the time and they work FIFO, so the sooner you get in line the sooner you will get it back. Good luck to you.
