The Arkansas River is supposed to crest sometime on Sunday
about 5 feet above the historic flood of 1943. Over 40 ft. at
Fort Smith, Van Buren. Crested in 43 above 38 ft. I have seen it float barges to the top of the levee below Van Buren.
A lot of high dollar river view homes are going to have muddy
water flowing through them come Sunday.
They closed I40 at Webbers Falls, Ok for 18 hrs. last night and
today as a couple loaded barges had broken loose at Muskogee,
and were headed for the lock and dam at Webbers Falls and the
Corp of Engineers were concerned the dam might fail. The
barges hit it this morning and both sunk in about 5 minutes with
minor damage to the dam. Barges weighed 338,000 lbs/each
loaded with some kind of fertilizer.

Old Arkansawer, I'd say WOW, but I'll have to say wow again to make sure I have enough letters in a post...But WOW...I know you've been getting a lot of rain down that way...as a matter of fact the thunder and lightning is going now, and light rain is starting to fall. When I looked up on the weather channel, its going to ge in the green all night long and into Saturday and Sunday.

3 minutes to the hour and its hailing pretty good now too. Not big chunks..(YET) anyway.

Ain't looking too good down here either. They are going to open the Morganza spillway and dump a LOT of water down the Atchafalya basin. Last time they did it, the ground was dry and the water came to almost the top of the protection levees. Now the ground is pretty saturated so it's anybodies guess as to what is gonna happen. Back water flooding is the big worry. I's sure Stevens over in Thibodeaux is keeping a weather eye out too-he is in the same position as I am, only he is on the east side of the spillway while I'm over here on the west. Morgan City should be OK as long as the levees hold, but ig not, that water will wash them out like a mud clot being flushed out of a sewer pipe

Update on the Arkansas River conditions at Fort Smith, Van Buren. Crest
is supposed to occur sometime tonight at 41 plus ft. We only had .3 in
of rain overnight at my place but more forecast for this afternoon. The
levy below Van Buren has been sand bagged with some leakage but
it is still holding. Farmers behind the levy are holding their breath.
Thousands of farm acres are flooded already in Arkansas and Oklahoma.
They say this is a 500 year flood, had two of these in 72 years and
several 100 year floods in the last 20 years.
Look for the grain futures to go up if anyone trades in those.

Having never witnessed flooding firsthand, when I saw this riverfront home, I thought it just an exaggerated flight of fancy. The elevation numbers you guys are seeing, show it was practical.

I'm Praying for you folks in the middle of the country.

Update #2
The Arkansas at Van Buren, Ar is 40ft. 7in. at 3:00p.m. today, supposed
to crest at 40ft. 9in. in a few hours. Levees are holding so far with some
extra sand bags on top in a few places. Lock & dam #13 is completely
under water except for the control house.
No rain in the forecast until mid next week, so,, the river is going to
start falling. Now the clean up begins. Folks down river it is still to
come.
