I am trying to bid on several used rifle scopes on eBay and keep getting the following message that prevents me from doing so. I am NOT an exporter and have NO interest in such.
What must I do in order to be able to bid. I am a longtime eBayer with over 1000 positive feedback.

This is the message:

It looks like this item is restricted for export under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, ITAR (22 CFR, Parts 120-130) or the Export Administration Regulations, EAR (15 CFR, Parts 730-774). Please ensure you comply with any regulatory licensing and documentation requirements associated with this product. For more information and guidance on these regulations, see the US Department of State website, the Bureau of Industry and Security website, and our military items policy.

Moderators, please this question to the most appropriate forum if this is not correct.

scope

Did you consider that maybe it would be exported from another country?

Edit: And anybody who hasn’t heard of ITAR needs to read up on it . . .

The listings have them located in the US....interestingly enough one of the sellers I contacted about this stated that because Montana is not in the US they could not sell it to me at any price!!

I had no idea that we had left!!!

If you are in the US, and the seller is in the US, ITAR should not be an issue. You sure you can’t find a box to check that says “understood and agree” or something like that?

I just went to ebay, pulled a decent rifle scope and clicked on “Buy it Now”. The seller and I were both in the USA. That same warning came up at the top of the check-out page, but it appeared that I was still able to pay with PayPal. I don’t want it, so I didn’t attempt to follow through.

Were you actually prevented from confirming your bid ,or did you just stop at the warning?

Sort of unrelated, but a friend sold an old Bushnell Command Post scope on ebay to a Canadian buyer. This was maybe 5 years back. Ebay allowed the sale, but US Customs seized it. He contacted Customs and they finally offered to return it for a fee, but it was more than the selling price of the scope. Ebay required him to refund the buyer, so he was out the scope and the cash.

The message has a box that says "Continue", which I clicked on numerous times but nothing happened.

Maybe Montana succeeded and I don't know it yet.....there was talk of selling Montana to Canada to wipe out the National Debt, but I don't think that happened yet................

I bought a couple Leopold and Redfields off Ebay about a year ago with no problems. Something must of happened since then. Every once in the while you run into a numbskull that doesn't know we are a US state.
