I have been a member since 12/2005, and the forum had proceeded me by years. Maybe I missed it somewhere along the way, but how did this forum begin? I am not trying to get into personalities, issues, gripes, etc. but I am curious about the beginning of this forum. If it causes any issues, I am sure that one of the moderators will close and delete. THANKS!

The gentleman that owns the Sigforum started this forum also.
I don't think he, parabellum, started it. I'm not sure, but I think he acquired it from the starter(s), probably about 02, give or take a year.
The earliest member registrations I can track are from Feb, 2000. It may have started before that and the data was lost when it was moved or software was changed. Not sure.

I bought the forum from parabellum in Dec, 2008. I assumed control Dec 28, 2008.

Maybe VictorLouis, registration Feb 29 2000, will chime in.

I seem to recall reading a post some time ago by one of our longterm members about the forum in the late ‘90s being a different, less sophisticated format. My impression of his comments was that it was in some simple text only format back then.

While it was mostly a very good forum under Parabellum, there were a few squabbles that ended up with people missing. Not having been involved in those, I really don't remember them. I do remember one or two that didn't even involve Parabellum, best as I can recall, and they resolved for the best when The Gorilla extended some sort of amnesty.

All's well that ends well.

Well, I'm sure the older members remember well the March 14th night of the long knives-it was ugly indeed. But it most definitely made it clear the direction the forum would take and established who was in charge.
To paraphrase the great Walter Sobchak
This is not Nam.
This is the forum
There ARE rules.

I'm new to the forum but I find it interesting to see member join dates that go back a ways. Just on this post there are several members who date back to the early 2000s.

Hey! What happened to my 14,000 likes?

I remember an upgrade in the operating program where I lost about 75% of my likes! (300-400) I figured that several threads had been removed from the archives, and anything associated with that thread diapered along with it.

I also remember a short lived moderator, that did some selective editing of posts, (mostly things he disagreed with) but he vanish one day!
