Forum Beginnings Question?

I remember an upgrade in the operating program where I lost about 75% of my likes! (300-400) I figured that several threads had been removed from the archives, and anything associated with that thread diapered along with it.

I also remember a short lived moderator, that did some selective editing of posts, (mostly things he disagreed with) but he vanish one day!

Ivan

I lost several thousand likes.

What is the criteria used to determine a Forum Member is an Active Forum Member?

Thank you.

This Forum cost me a lot of money because of posted pictures of guns I didn't know I wanted. Now I'm selling those same guns at a reasonable profit because Mr. Arthritis tells me time marches on.

EDIT: The Posted Pictures were not in the For Sale Forum, but under the category "See What I Just Bought".

I didn't know that M629 revolvers came with unfluted cylinders until I bought the first one 20 years ago. Because of the Forum I had to acquire 4 more. The M29 revolvers were priced right and I never decline a bargain -- at least in my mind.

Although I'm a relatively recent member, my appreciation for the civility on this forum has remained undiminished. The corollary is that I have reached a confidence level of the overall integrity of the members that I read the classified section before any others!

This practice has led to acquisition of some great firearms from folks I've come to trust simply by virtue of their membership here.

Well, I'm sure the older members remember well the March 14th night of the long knives-it was ugly indeed. But it most definitely made it clear the direction the forum would take and established who was in charge.
To paraphrase the great Walter Sobchak
This is not Nam.
This is the forum
There ARE rules.

Wasn't it February 14th due to the thread on "Man's version of Valentines Day?"

I wont repeat the rest

I recall the same 2003 or 2004.... about the same time I left the city to set up my office in a Burb of the Burgh.

Thanks gentlemen for keeping it the way you have.
Thanks Lee, and thanks to the moderators who have been keeping an eye on this! 🤞
I have another thought? Or maybe this post has run its course?
More stories about way back when, and to bring up a previous mention, maybe VictorLouis, or one of the beginning people can tell us some more about 2000 or nearby.

Maybe VictorLouis, registration Feb 29 2000, will chime in.

I seem to recall reading a post some time ago by one of our longterm members about the forum in the late ‘90s being a different, less sophisticated format. My impression of his comments was that it was in some simple text only format back then.

Wow, I really have to grind the gears on this one. I know that Parabellum/Mike had a partner in this particular forum. I met him once when he visited Phoenix with his sweet little doggie. I can't recall his screen name, nor regular name. Very quiet gent.

The only two old-timers I had a chance to meet were SmithNut, outta the pacific NW...and Osprey from Virginia, IIRC. Both stand-up great guys. I have no idea of their participation here now.

I am pretty sure the software format was the same, or nearly so, all these years. I am NOT the least bit 'techy' in any way.

I moderated for a couple years, IIRC. My son was born, and I started to have marriage issues, and I gave that up. Required too much time on the old Sony WebTv viewing platform, LOL. As I said, not tech-savvy.

That's about all I can muster guys and gals....

It's a good forum, not perfect, but none of the members are either. It has been bad for my checking account, but I have to look in the mirror at the old codger in there and blame him. Oh, I almost forgot, I think I have passed the beginning of the "Cranky ole guy" stage.

I have had the pleasure of being among some true Heroes here, Veterans, LEO's and such, and I really appreciate them. Thank you all.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Interesting discussion.

I would tend to use this idea to describe the old vs the current state of this forum:
Old=chicken wings with hot sauce
Current=chicken wings but no hot sauce allowed.

I joined here in 2016. I really don't remember how I stumbled across this forum, but now being here is one of the things I look forward to each day. I have met new friends, made new friends that I hope to meet face to face some day, and even found an old friend from college 45 years ago. Thanks to all of you for making this forum what it is.
