Has anyone observed shortages of some items in grocery stores lately. I'm seeing shortages of frozen veggies, paper towels and other items.

Is their a pre-election stock up going on by worried people happening ?

Paper products have returned in abundance around here.
The only thing short that I buy is frozen fruit at Walmart.
I can buy it by paying more and have at other places.
Walmart frozen fruit is good and it's cheap!
I'm probably not the only humanoid who knows that.
I take it that the supply line has not fully recovered from the COVID buying frenzy.
Come on people! Toilet paper don't grow on trees!

Not so much in the grocery stores around here since the panic when the virus scare first happened with the lock downs. Not sure where you are but maybe some are afraid they will get another lock down. I think some department store are still having a hard time getting new items but a lot of the clothing comes from other countries that have been shut down.

I've been noticing empty shelves on and off at the local wally for the last couple of months. Last week, it was ramen noodle section.

Until the last week or so, the items I mentioned were available, the shortages seem to be happening now. Not sure if its people worried or just the way supply and demand is cycling.

The various public health officials who've been trying to educate the American public about this virus have been saying that this coming winter could be very rough, and indeed, this week's grim news from all across the country should make all of us think.

What seems to be happening is that a lot of folks are stocking up on non-perishable items -- toilet paper and paper towels, liquid hand soap, household cleaners, etc. -- in anticipation of having to be quarantined over the winter.

Are you equating any shortages you see to the upcoming election and not the increasing record numbers of COVID-19 infections? That's an interesting conclusion...

I can only tell you what shortages I see in my area (nothing of any significance other than ammunition) and the reasons why I am buying anything in bulk (St. Louis style pork ribs were on sale and I want to crank up my smoker), but I can't speak for why anyone else is buying anything else in particular.

When are you cooking the ribs???

Take your choice on the reasons why...

My reasons? Because I like the cut of the St. Louis style ribs better than spare ribs, and babybacks are too expensive. As for what cut of pork ribs anyone else likes, that's their choice and not mine. ;)

There is a shortage of truckload capacity.........tractor trailers. As one of the major current issues with the U.S. supply chain, truckload transportation is in exceptionally high demand and the current supply is low. The same is true with labor availability for large-scale distribution centers. For various reasons caused by the pandemic, warehouse worker and driver availability has decreased. In addition, trucking companies have had to manage their equipment more tightly to control costs. As a result, everything takes longer to get where it's going........Amazon orders, groceries, lawn mowers........everything. Product availability at the store level will fill and deplete in a less predictable fashion. You will also notice that rarely will all products be in-stock at the same time. The supply chain is currently messed up. Expect it to be worse during the holidays as demand becomes greater. When the election, holidays, and pandemic are over, we'll return to the normal in-stock patterns. Until then, expect it to be imperfect at best.

DING DING DING We have a winner here folks ^^^^^^^^^^^

Logistics is certainly the main problem, not so much supply, but distribution.

No shortage where I shop. Might not get the size or brand of some items but there's enough of something for everyone.

Actually, I was surprised at the amount of cleaning and wiping stuff available at my local Lowe's and Target this week. The only shortage I am seeing is in gallon containers of Minute Maid OJ.

Rob—I have had to make several fairly long interstate drives this fall for my son's football. In all directions from here. Day or night, there is one virtually unbroken chain of tractor trailer rigs on the highways. The rest areas are packed to capacity, the truck stops are overflowing. I have never in my life seen the amount of tractor trailer traffic we now have. And they still can't keep up.

I read in the business section of one of the major papers that would could double our trucking capacity right now and still not keep up with the demand.
