Desperately Seeking Susieqz
This is an offshoot of another, long-running thread, "MY GARDEN IS PROTECTED", started by "susieqz" in July 2017 and is now running over 1400 posts. However, starting at post #1351, there has been some concern about what has happened to her, as she hasn't been seen online since mid-July of last year.
As you can see from that page, a number of us who have been involved there have been digging a bit and some of the information gleaned is rather worrying. She lived a solitary life in a sparsely-populated area of NM outside Tucumcari. It seems she has not been in good health and has seemingly just disappeared A couple of Forum members had her full name, mailing and e-mail addresses and haven't heard from her.
She has been on other threads, so it was suggested to start a separate thread that might attract other Forum members who had been in contact with her and might have some scraps of information.
-----
PS- Please check the original thread linked above to see what's already been done and avoid invoking The Department of Redundancy Dept.

Just thinking out loud.
In this post from June 2020 - http://smith-wessonforum.com/140801099-post48.html
She says her nearest neighbor is 3 miles away, so that sounds pretty remote.
But in this post from July 2020 - http://smith-wessonforum.com/140822305-post5.html
She says she gets Youtube on her TV from her router. That doesn’t sound quite so hermit like. Wherever she’s at, she has electricity. She has a TV. And maybe most interestingly, she’s close enough to civilization that she has some kind of cable internet service where she has a router and something like Roku so she can get Youtube on her TV. It doesn’t sound like she’s only using a computer at the library when she goes to town. That doesn’t sound quite so remote.
You might also ask the mods here if they have access to the web server logs from back in July, and if they do, if they’d be willing to do a trace route (tracert) on her IP address. If she wasn’t using a VPN, you might get a location narrowed down more closely.
ETA - same thing if you have an email from her. Should be a source IP address in the email header. If she’s not using a VPN, you should be able to narrow it down to an ISP and maybe a geo.

This morning I did a couple minute google search on “susieqz” “new mexico” (using the quotes).
Susan (in her sig line - same avitar as here) grew fig trees. She was (past tense) a prolific poster on gardening and fig tree forums. She listed in her sig line that she lived outside Tucumcari, NM. IIRC, the name of her favorite fig tree was Chicago - might be a hint.
Tucumcari is only 5,000 people. How many garden centers can there be? How many older women named Susan can there be that live alone on an acarage outside Tucumcari and buy gardening supplies for their fig trees? Maybe call a Tucumcari garden center and talk to the manager.
If you know her actual email address and do the google search using “susieqz” “new mexico” “her actual email” (with the quotes), you’ll probably come up with her real name and address with a few minutes searching.
Oh, yeah - we leave lots of electronic breadcrumbs everywhere we go.

Good "gumshoeing", Ziggy! We already know her real name and address in Tucumcari, but had not thought of doing any other searches using the same "handle" she used here. Given her remote location (although still within internet access- maybe only just), and her posts on the other big thread, gardening was a big part of her life and a way to be self-sufficient.

Aha! Did you notice when she stopped posting on the gardening forums? Or which forums she was on? Given her intense devotion to her "kitties" she might have been on some cat forums as well. (I've heard there actually is life outside the S&W Forum.)

Looks like you found them. Her posts here were the newest of any I saw. Most of the other posts were 2014 to 2018. It looks like she also posted frequently on rugerforum.net and an air rifle forum I don't recall.

As several of you have Susie’s last known address, has anyone attempted to send her a USPS registered return receipt requested letter? I believe the USPS will advise the sender of any forwarding. Information.

Is it possible that she felt like she was being stalked here, and is attempting to escape???

i believe someone checked obits, as did I. Nada. Iggy sad she was seriously adverse to a senior facility due to her kitties, but you never know.
@old bear: USPS registered letter might be a good idea.
Sheesh... I wish she'd just log in and put us out of our misery, even if just to say "**** off! I'm still kicking!"
It's 6:35 am and I've been at this for an hour or more. Need coffee, not to mention breakfast

I haven't read all her posts, even on the "Garden is protected" thread but I didn't get that impression. Now since all this erupted a few months ago, with people wondering about her whereabouts, I suppose it's possible. If so, I'd think perhaps she might contact Admin or maybe Iggy (who seems to have corresponded with her quite a bit) and ask to just be left alone.
If she is still around and reading any of this (w/o logging in), I would hope she'd understand our concern and not take offense.

My wife and I both grew up in the area (left many years ago), however, we still have quite a few relatives living around there, including my father-in-law for one, who is 93, lives in Tucumcari, and has lived in the area all his life. He knows just about everyone around there or ever lived around there. If you want, email me her name/address and I'll check and see if anyone knows her or her status.

Aha! Some information has just been received via PM "from our agencies" and sent to Engineer1911 and Redbert31. You may be getting a PM shortly....
EDIT: PM sent

I'm sure this is all very well-intentioned, but I'm not sure what the point of it is. It's not as if the person may need emergency medical attention given the length of time that has passed. And she may not appreciate all this attention. For future reference, if I ever "disappear," don't feel the need to go all Missing Persons Bureau for me. Just assume I have (1) left this mortal coil or (2) am locked in an institution or (3) just lost interest (HIGHLY unlikely).

Preferences noted Yes, it may be we're going overboard on this, but I guess it's because we've "known" her for a few years from the other very long thread and appreciated her stories, so are just worried. But you make a good point. It's easy to get the bit between your teeth and head off like a starving chihuahua after a sausage on things like this. If the mods feel we're overstepping our bounds I hope they'll let us know. (And susieqz, too, if she sticks her head over the parapet.)
We're keeping her personal info private (via PMs) amongst those of us who are doing some background digging and whatever we may find out would, I think, only be posted here in brief. It's not intended to be an extended exposé

One thing that Internet Forums have Developed is a true sense of Community
This, over the past year, has been Heightened by Distancing
SusieQ, among many others, became a component of our lives
She is as much a part of "us" as a neighbor or other people we know
Despite it just being "Virtual"
While this Searching & Concern Might Seem "Overboard"
I Much prefer to be a part of a group that goes to great lengths to show they care

How do y'all know her real name was even Susie?
Someone had the law do a wellness check at her last known address, I doubt a letter would do any good.

Her name could be anything, and she might be a big fan of this song.

If someone has an account with the background services like Checkmate, we could enter her name and date of birth and may find a new address or names of relatives and their telephone numbers. I don't have her name or other information so I can't check.

This is rapidly approaching creepy.

By way of reliable third hand information, Susieqz passed away at her computer. She was found by utility workers.

It's all over, folks
As Engineer1911 posted on the "My Garden is protected" thread:

No further details are available, nor exactly when this happened but likely last summer, when her posts here and on other forums stopped. She was 73 and had had health problems for some time. A sad and lonely passing for one of our community.
Many thanks to all who contributed.

If anyone has additional information, please share it with a staff members.
I hate hearing about the passing of one of our members. It break my heart. It happens far too frequently here, but that’s to be expected in a large community with older members.
Godspeed Susie! I hope the forum brought some joy into your life and we were blessed to have you here.

I also hope that she’s OK.
I sort of remember that she told that she lived in a village N of Tucumcari.
At the time of the PMs I had recently driven up that way.
I had actually driven through her ‘town’ but couldn’t remember anything about it!

Depends on your definition of "OK."

Rest in peace, Susieqz.
I think, for a person like her, from what little we know of the circumstances of her death, it was not a bad way to go.
She was a reclusive person, and kept her independence until the end of her life. That she was slumped over at her computer when found, to me indicates that death was unexpected and likely pretty quick. From what we know of her, she would not have been happy stuck in a nursing facility or similar somewhere.
At least that is what I would like to believe.
God rest her soul.

She only ever had kind words for me when we traded comments.
That's how I will remember her.

That is the way she wanted to go.
She researched my ailments and lectured me on taking care of myself, but it was a brick wall when I did the same to her.
I tried over and over to get her to look into a senior facility... NO DICE!
SHE DID IT HER WAY.

I hope wherever she is now, she's at peace and has lots of "kitties" to keep her company. Some of hers may not have survived her passing, but I hope Drifter and the others are keeping her company now. They were a big part of her life. Those of us who are "cat" people know only too well the bond that can develop between cats and their devoted- and occasionally exasperated - servants (for such we are.)
May you be surrounded by figs (another passion) and kitties, susieqz

Dang...I hate hearing news like that. Even though many of us have never met face-to-face, you have to admit, it's kinda like having extended family here on this forum. And when we hear about our absent comrades, it hurts.
Rest in peace, Susie. You'll definitely be missed

What he^^^^^ said 100%. I so enjoyed her posts, her beloved "kits," Drifter and Cud, and her fiercely protected and independent way of life. She was definitely "her own person" and will be missed. RIP Susieqz (and probably Drifter and Cud too)

She was a bright and shining star to her cats and many of us. I hope they were okay and she is resting peacefully. I truly enjoyed her comments and views.
