What’s the best paint to use that MAY just remain on the chair for a while?
I know the majority will advise to just get new ones but my Dad used read the morning paper sitting on these on the front porch and I’d like to keep them in use as long as I can.
Call me sentimental

Make sure the plastic isn't brittle, I've crashed to the ground a couple times on old plastic chairs. If they're kept in the shade they'll last a lot longer.

Try acrylic latex floor paint if you want to use a brush. Make sure the surface is free of dirt and that chalky residue plastic puts off as it ages. A good pressure washing before painting works great. Stay away from colors darker than original.

Let it cure for a few days.

I tried the plastic paint on some plastic chairs we use at our hunting camp, and it didn't hold up too well - probably my fault. On a couple that I use around the shop, I just used warm Dawn/water mix with oooo steel wool, and was very impressed - more so than with the paint. AND, the brittle chairs will give you a surprise.

MRB1, thanks! I’ll try that first. They need to be cleaned and prepped anyways.
Just might save some paint
I’ll heed that warning and avoid sitting in them although, they don’t SEEM brittle yet.
I’ll let my friends sit in them.

A couple years ago (more than a couple) I was at the hunting camp getting ready to relive the day around the campfire with a ice cold beer - as soon as I sat down with that full can, the back leg snapped like a toothpick, and i went over backwards hard, and was surprised I wasn't hurt badly - but was more surprised that I didn't spill a drop of the precious coolant.

For the cost spent on primer, cleaner, sandpaper, and HIGH quality exterior paint including time/gas to get the materials, cleaning, prep, drop cloth, and paint I would buy a new chair.

It’s a subconscious thing that we possess. Almost as if there’s a gyroscope in our wrists.

I get it but like I mentioned, these have value to me.
