Is everyone sick of Camp Lejeune legal ads?

These suits affect every taxpayer, for a lonnnngggggg time, as they're dragged out for more money.

I've gotten a letter and a phone call from the VA this year about Agent Orange class action suits. I did join in 1970 when the war was hopping, but the closest I ever got to Vietnam was the island of Guam, in 1976 after the war ended.

I told the nice VA guy who called all this, and asked why they were contacting me, since they had those records. He said court cases kept expanding the definition of in theatre, and who had to be contacted.

Every other ad on Youtube is for this, showing what looks like a 40-something grunt taking a swig from a canteen. Weird choice of images.

Maybe eventually we'll learn that our government lies to us about pretty much everything.

I'm pretty sure that every military base I was ever on had contaminated water, which is why I usually drank beer. I have seen several of these attorney commercials and some have from 1950 to 1983 and some from 1953 to 1987 you would think they could at least get the dates right.

Before this, it was asbestos and faulty military ear protection. Now it's bad water and cancer causing talcum powder. Tomorrow it'll be something else, sure as the sun rises in the East. Barristers need that new Jaguar.
Agent Orange is ripe for harvest.

I have a neighbor who worked at Rocky Flats for decades. He has late stage Parkinson’s,most likely from that job.
Back in the 80s during the oil bust a friend talked about closing his shop and taking a job there. I think it paid $15/hr. Even then we had our doubts about that place.
There are housing developments going up on the south end of that long closed plants property now with plenty of assurance that it’s safe.
Yeah….NO!

All you folks in that area were very lucky that the FBI raided that place when they did. The first 90 degree elbow of the glovebox vent system had enough plutonium settled out of the airstream to go critical. All because the glovebox mechanics poked screwdrivers through the HEPA filters, instead of changing them out when they clogged.

There’s a map of that property and the area around it showing cancer rates.East and southeast (downwind) rates are higher than would be expected and it has to be disturbing for anyone who grew up in those neighborhoods

Unfortunately, proximity to sites related to the Atomic Energy Commission, Department of Energy, Department of Defense, or their contractors, often have elevated risk.

If anyone is concerned, a good resource, before you move, is the EPA site with an interactive map of Superfund sites.

Search for Superfund Sites Where You Live | US EPA

What really ticked me off with the radio ads was the one law firm that didn't even bother to make sure that their reader/announcer pronounced "Lejune" and "Corps" correctly! Who in the world would be dumb enough to hire a firm that can't get those "small" details correct? Want to take the chance that they would mess up something really important?

After about 10 days/2 weeks the same ad came on air with corrected pronounciations. I have no dog in this fight, but if I did I would have called them and given them an earful. Apparently, many others felt the same.

Yep...I'm tired of them, and the emails telling me I'm already eligible, in spite of the fact that I've never been in the service, and really am not sure where Camp Lejeune is, other than somewhere in NC.

There must be a ton of money involved here, because the ads are very frequent, and many are lengthy. Air time is expensive

Most of these type of ads are paid per phone response to the advertiser (hence a unique 800 phone number used on different networks so that they can be tracked), not per actual commercial cost or a "package" cost. Did these type of spots all the time on radio when I was a broadcaster.

There is an excellent documentary on Amazon Prime (unfortunately costs $3.99) that answers many of the questions being asked here on the forum. As I understand it, the persons instrumental in bringing this issue before congress were Gerry Ensminger whose 9 year old daughter tragically died of cancer, and Mike Partain, who contracted breast cancer. Some of the interesting statements in the documentary were from the base fire fighters who stated that when they opened up fire hydrants they would get an extremely strong odor of chemicals from the water, according to them they knew something was wrong with the water for years, very sad the lack of integrity.

A website with info on this is tftptf.com

Locally, there are two cable TV channels showing nothing but those Lejeune ads 24/7. I saw something new today, offering any local lawyers access to national TV advertising for their services. They run the usual cancer scare TV ads with an 800 call-in number. Based on the source area code where the incoming calls originate, they are immediately transferred to some lawyer near the call source. I haven’t seen anything like that used before.

If you were one of the veterans that developed kidney disease or one of the other presumptive conditions due to the contaminated water or a parent of one of the children that tragically died of cancer due to the mother living in base housing drinking water and feeding their baby every day water contaminated with volatile organic compounds, you actually might be glad to see this issue getting attention, in any form.
