Yesterday's post.........Gunblue490 strikes again.

I've always thought the secret to Youtube was based on discussion and comments concerning topics of interest to the viewer. That's what the "comments" section is for right?

Apparently, on GB's channel, viewer comments are OK as long as you agree with the host, if otherwise, your comment or input will be deleted. I've always wondered why there were no differences of opinion or negative comments expressed in the 'comments' listed on his channel? :D

How convenient. Such an easy way of protecting your "I'm always right" status.

"Welcome back" ? No, thanks.

About Your Important Comments & Questions - YouTube

I've had many discussions in the comments section on my Youtube videos. People asking why I do something a certain way and/or recommending alternate techniques.
The thing about Youtube is it that if somebody has a channel, some of them instantly consider themselves as an expert and get angry if you question them.

I actually agree with his right to control his comments. I’m not sure why that upsets anybody. I am an expert in my industry and have looked at channels related to what I do and seen stupid and downright dangerous opinions stated as fact in comments. Sometimes comments need to be moderated.

I try to stick with one or two gun guys, the rest of my time I waste on music. I'll try to force myself into the How To videos, like two of the rifles I bought for my grandson, but sifting through some of those vids are just so darned boring, or just the opposite, just plain stupid trying to be funny. Or tough-guy. But, you tube will always have a place in my heart. Like when I'm "in the mood" so to speak, Jimi Hendrix's "1983...A Merman I Should Turn To Be" or other music of that type. Some guys & gals are pretty good with their computer artistry to go with the music.

Yes, I was a little stunned with Gunblue490's YouTube video yesterday. Yes, it's his comments and he can do as he pleases, but by cutting out anything he does not 100% agree with (whether he's right or wrong), it's not going to help grow his channel. Most other channels encourage comments which no doubt helps the "algorithm" to promote their channel. It's like "cutting off your nose to spite your face". What would happen if Bill Wilson puts a comment on one of Gunblues videos disagreeing with one of his facts or methods........would he just delete Mr Wilson too?

If Gunblue490 wants to run an "Ask the Expert" Service, maybe he would be better served shutting down the comments section altogether and just having his own forum or website where he can address his fans.

Like I posted in the “never, ever, ever, ever thread”, I’ve tried to have a simple and legitimate discussion with GunBlue490 on several occasions and he had turned nasty, rude and condescending very quickly as soon as anything he says is questioned. NOPE-don’t need that - at that point I just unsubscribed from his channel.

His channel, his thoughts and beliefs, however I will not be talked down to or degraded by a “YouTube Bozo”. Adios GB!

In general terms......

YouTube is entertaining, some channels and video's are informative and some are even terrific! Many are horrible and misinforming also. The key here is to be able to determine which ones are truthful, meaningful and accurate - then focus on those. There are a few great channels but even the great ones sometimes make errors.

I have witnessed a plethora of YouTube gun videos where the maker knows little of what he has made a video about. I'd put up money betting that many YouTubers are making a video just after taking a gun apart, putting it back together and working on it just barely a few times. You can see in their videos they are fumbling, awkward don't really know what they are doing! Because there is no way to regulate who makes a video and how experienced or inexperienced they are, it is up to the viewers to figure that out! As soon as I see a YouTuber doing something out and out wrong - I move on. Occasionally if they are a respectable YouTuber and just made a minor error, I try and post a respectful comment to correct it. Many times I have been thanked or appreciated for pointing that out - sometimes not.

The most vulnerable are the Newbies who have trouble discerning what is accurate and what is not. That is where common sense comes in.

My channel gets so few views that this is a non-issue for me...I have ten year old videos with viewcounts in the single digits...But I have also never deleted comments with which I had disagreement (actually I don't even remember if there were such comments)...I think if I ever saw any which were just there for profanity's sake or shock value, I would delete them...On other channels I seen nonsensical gibberish and have no idea why it's allowed to stand...

I've never seen Gunblue490's channel before, but it is his, and he's welcome to run it his own way......Ben

Long before the Internet was developed I found my brain cells had an Ignore function and people who are too sensitive to criticism, have "Speech Regulations" ala the Third Reich, take a Stalinist/Maoist view of criticism, put out incorrect information quickly go on My Ignore List.

I watch quite a bit of YT and comment often but only if I can make a comment non confrontational or constructive. If I don't like a channel I do not watch it. Life is to short for acrimonious cyber confrontations. In the past on a hunting forum about my home state individuals actually were making arrangements to meet and fight. How stupid can that be.
I have watched the GB channel at times and he can be sometimes informative but his style leaves me cold so I quit him. Hey it is his channel he can put on there what he wants but no one makes me watch it and get all torn up over his opinion.
YT is a private channel but then again it is not. You put something out there for the world to see and offer opinions about it is most certainly not private.

My opinion, You tube is for listening to and watching live music videos. I do occasionally watch other topics of interest and sometimes even look for advise and problem solving. I've never really had the inkling to reply to what I'm watching beyond a "thumbs up". Either it is entertaining or not. Useful or not. Annoying or not....
My wife posts concert videos. She does it strictly as a form of entertainment for the viewer. Most are very good given all of the environmental issues with the venues and the fact she uses her iphone! She constantly gets criticized and berated. I tell her to stop, but she continues.
Not everything requires comment. Good, bad or indifferent. Again, just my opinion.

There is apparently some good gun-related material on YouTube but much of it isn't. If you have unlimited time and are already somewhat familiar with the subject, you may find something useful.

Many, maybe most of the YouTube features are poorly edited, if they're edited at all. There may be two minutes of "meat" in a twenty-minute YouTube presentation and those two minutes may not be factual.

Many criticize paper gun magazines and much of that criticism is deserved, especially nowadays. However, it's seldom you see a paper article that is not professionally well edited, as vitually any article, published anywhere, should be. Most paper gunwriters are knowledgeble and have well-earned credentials. They know what they write about. A few are little better than many of the YouTube maestros.

YT isn't the only place where poor reviews either don't last long or get posted at all. I did a polite, but negative, customer review of some active hearing protection that lasted less than 24 hours on the manufacturers website. The product apparently wasn't designed with impulse noise protection in mind.

I always figure it's up to the viewer to decide what's good or bad info on YouTube. I often watch a few videos before working on my vehicle if it's something I'm not familiar with. I always watch a several so I can get a feel for what's right because some guys usually have a better way to do the job than others.

There's always some that stand out for how obvious it is that the poster is full of excrement.

You have to stay awake when watching gun videos on YT or anywhere else.

I have watched a number of YT gun people get caught out recently by guns that have unusual operating systems. They got all kind of turned around. The Laugo Alien is frequently described as gas operated, when it's actually a gas retarded blowback. Seen the same for the HK P7, Walther CCP and the Steyr GB. Seems that the second you mention gas they want to make everything an AR-15.

Then there has been all the confusion over the RIA 5.0. To me, it's obvious that it uses an interesting twist on the Bergmann system, but it seems certain other features and the manufacturer's naming conventions has got a lot of people confused.

Berettas and Grand Powers with rotating barrels get described as "rotating bolt" pistols. Errrm, not so much.

Ben. What is your channel name so I can go and check it out?

95 % of the “content” on boobtube is about as useless as you know what on a bull…. I tried it, really tried to like it, but my time is important to sort thru the bravo Sierra.

Some of the big names on there have a devoted following, but shills for whomever is paying them! Seems to be the same with most writers. I grew up on O’Connor, Skelton, Cooper, etc. only one or two of the current ones seem to be shills for whomever.

You use boobtube, good for you. Sifting thru the nonsense just isn’t for me.

Regards, Rick Gibbs
