Waffle House

My favorite is (was?) in Tifton, GA. I would get there somewhere between 06-0800 after driving overnight with the family on the way to NC. Loading up on carbs and grapefruit juice after a night of Snickers bars and coffee allowed for a good nap while the wife navigated us to Macon where I'd take back over driving duties. Good memories.
I have no problems stopping, to this day that black and yellow sign high above the interstates sing that siren song to me.

Depends on the store.....

We have good and bad Waffle Houses. I've had bad experiences at Denny's, never gone back. If I want eggs and grits and bacon and toast and hashbrowns and whatever else I can pile on there. I go to WH.

"Long night boys. Meet me at Waffle House, I'm buyin!"

Timing is everything.
Used to stop at one early on weekend mornings while on the way to a gun show. Nice customers (usually including Ross Beard, who wrote the Carbine Williams book) and nice workers.
While working night shift I tried a local WH about 2:00AM. Way too many loud obnoxious drunks.

I loves me some Waffle House, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
Me too. I remember when they opened (native Atlantan here). My Dad came home one day and told my Mom-
"You gotta go to this new place called Waffle House. All they serve is breakfast." My Mom replied- "Only breakfast? That'll never work!" :D
I ate in the first one within a month of it opening.

The prices have gone up since they opened -- we used to be able to eat there for around $10.00, but now it costs almost double that.
Going as an adult, I could eat there for less than $5, including tip. ;)

There is a persistent rumor that WH is anti 2A and doesn't allow guns inside.

I've eaten at places in several states, including TX and TN, which have binding signage and have never seen a sign or any indication that they prohibit people carrying firearms from entering.

I like Waffle House, really got to be a regular thing some years ago. Our gun shop used to do gun shows selling ammo and accessories across several states (and buying collector guns whenever we found them for resale!) which meant a lot of late night driving. Have eaten in a Waffle House in just about every east coast state and much of the midwest. Often the only place open, the food was cheap and good and usually the service was too no matter where we went. Rarely any issues and they were usually minor (and taken care of easily enough). Though we did see some rather odd sights in a few of them, there are some strange people in the world and they usually come out at night!

Still eat at the two close to me from time to time, often with the grandkids in tow. They love the waffles and consider it a real treat.

It's not a rumor . They have " no firearms .." signs on the door . I ignore them like I do most other places that post them .

The ones I've noticed have been posted on the wall behind the grill. Like everyone would see that.

I somehow made it into my 40s without ever eating in a WH. But one morning after a 12 hour night shift, my (power plant service) crew said they were stopping at WH. That seemed oddly appealing and I went. I saw the light! Praise the homefries-smothered.

Despite there being one about 12 miles away from where I'm typing this, I've never eaten there. But a long lapse of patronage was remedied in about 2018/2019 during a horse haul. The truck was in a shop while the techs had long -and fruitless-conversations with the powertrain control module*. I spent a couple of days (ALL daytime TV sucks) in a local motel with the only food at a WH at the bottom of the hill. Good food, decent prices and my long sabbatical was broken.

*Off topic, but after I got home, I contacted a specialist firm and had the unit rebuilt.

I can't imagine being hungry enough to eat at a Waffle House.

Have you ever tried Waffle House or are you just going on your perception? Waffle House actually has good food, good coffee etc. Their All star breakfast is a great deal.
My wife is a notoriously picky eater, she hates Cracker barrel, Ihop, Denny's along with most fast food. We have breakfast at Waffle House every time we make the drive home to Ohio and she looks forward to it.

I also don't care for Cracker Barrel at all, but I'll eat at a Waffle House when I have time to wait for a seat...:D...Ben

I live near I-75 in a small town. There are thirteen Waffle Houses within 16 miles of my hacienda.

And, you have to wait to get a seat in any one of them.

These are the facts and they are undisputed.

When I lived in Ft. Collins, 30yr ago, I ate frequently at the one along the freeway i they had a killer T-Bone, Eggs & Hash Browns.

I ate at one a couple of months ago in Arizona, it was horrible.

Dirty, no cook, waitress was trying to cook and did not know the difference between pancake and waffle batter. My waffle was just not up to par. Not her fault, the manager/owner should have come in and worked.
