I find this gun cabinet to be clever.

However, it seems to me a file cabinet would be one of the first things a burglar would go through.

Unfortunately, a file cabinet would be a relative easy task to break into.

There are those who do not have and cannot afford a 'Gun Safe'.

Nonetheless, it is clever.

I think a filing cabinet in a gun room would get ransacked. I have two in mine! But another cabinet in an office or filing room would be overlooked, maybe.

Hey, it beats allowing a petty thief to reach under the bed and take away an armload of guns. I used to have a locking cabinet (it wasn't considered stout enough to be called a safe) that wasn't much more robust than that cabinet, but it was sure better than nothing. When I got some real safes I sold the locking cabinet to another cowboy shooter who put it in his trailer.

There's always job boxes at local stores. Bolted to the floor, they'd certainly be better than many sheet metal storage things.

Right you are, I have seen a few used that way.- Many have two locks and the box is constructed to be very hard to force!

Sometimes after a big construction job is over the company will sell at a good price or even give away items rather than pay the costs of bringing some items back to their shop.

It doesn’t seem to be a very practical idea to me as it look like it is hard to easily get the guns in and out of the cabinet. Now if he could attach some hinges or a full length vertical hinge so the false front drawers would swing out that would make it easy to use.

This is about stealth instead of strength! The best I've seen is a false/hollow furnace. Plain sight is sometimes the best place to hide things!

Speaking from experience, it is something they will check. If it is an experienced burglar, most any other "secret" place you can think of will too. Time is the burglar's enemy. They can rampage a house in 5-10 minutes. First step of security is anything that slows them down, increasing the risks of being discovered.

I would venture to guess a great percentage of burglaries are by meth head types that could almost be characterized as "smash and grab". Kick in a door or window, rummage through the house in the most obvious places you can as quickly as possible, grab what you can easily carry (cash, jewelry, cameras, a guitar or a gun(s) and hightail it out.
Bottom line, anyone that has the time (or even better) knows you have gun safes/security cabinets and knows you'll be gone for a while and isn't worried about making some noise will bring tools or use yours and THEY WILL get in the safe(s). Safes slow them down like locks only deter honest folks. Security cameras, dogs, lighting, good neighbors - all these things make most thieves look for easier targets. The ones that come on in anyway . . . sometimes even if you're home . . . that's when you better have a plan "A" that involves self protection - the other stuff mentioned is really plan "B".
