Taylor Swift? I don't get it

I enjoyed her stuff when she was leaning more Country/Folk. She's a talented songwriter, and she has certainly figured out the formula.
Not a big fan, but can't really say anything negative, either.
Her fans, OTOH....yeesh.

Never heard her music and don't want to. Obviously she's doing something right that pleases the masses. A sad testimonial about the mentality of people in our country is what's happening on the major news networks. BREAKING NEWS, Her boyfriend is going to comment publicly about what it's like to date her. Wow! Be ready on the edge of your chair folks!

I imagine Taylor will be despondent and in need of a hotline number after she reads this thread.
nope. She would be pleased tat a bunch of old farts know of her enough to talk about her. No publicity is bad publicity. She is a shrewd businesswoman-the publicity she is currently getting due to her "romance" with the NFL guy is priceless. She is getting free publicity from one of the biggest titans in the entertainment industry, the NFL. Say what y'all want, but I admire her business acumen. To tell the truth I could not pick put a song sung by her on a bet.
Now Lady Gaga-that's a different story-tat gal has a voice I love!

Tyler Swift's music isn't for me. BUT, she's a working woman who started out with nothing and busted her butt for the billion or so dollars she's worth. For that reason alone, I'm a fan.

What I "don't get" is someone isn't willing to work, let alone work for what they dream of.

She blew-up when she went from country to pop-schlock.
Like it or not, folks are amazed at the show/s she puts on.
I wonder if she covers any, or much, of her country songs during the shows.

Some of her stuff doesn't offend me, but her music isn't usually in my playlists. Nor would I be called a fan. That being said, she gives fans what they want and does it well. I can respect that.
I have acquaintances that attended concerts and they raved about the shows she puts on.

If I can ever make it through one day without hearing her name mentioned, I know it will be time to go to my just reward.

Money ain’t everything.

You are right, it isn't until you don't have any. To me, many of the recent female singers all sound the same, especially country. I wish I could like country but, just can't. Teen of the 80's and still loving it.

I have no issues with her success. Don't think I will ever grab a bottle of brown liquor and go up on the stage with her telling the world she should get an award. I am happy for her success. I am happy for anyone's success. I wish the US had more millionaires and billionaires. They help pay for the things I use and or rely on. They pay more taxes than I do.

Still don't think I will have a poster of her anytime soon in my garage.:D

I figure it's a generational thing.
Not understanding her music is a sure sign that we are getting old.

There is a YouTube of Swift from years ago, where she brings out Shawn Colvin and they perform "Sunny Came Home" together, Colvin's hit from 1997. It is shot from somebody's phone, so the audio is not what you wish, but even so, it is interesting to compare the two women. As poets they are not in the same league. As singers, they each do well in their own way, but I think Taylor Swift knows the difference and wanted her fans to know about this very special folk singer.
-As a person, Swift has an unusual humility especially for someone in her position.
-As a businesswoman, her handling of Scooter Braun and her old label, Big Machine, is truly admirable. I understand she credits Kelly Clarkson with the advice. What you are seeing today is the after-effect of that decision and her superior skill over others who have controlled her work previously.
-As a Christian, I do not care for what she has to say as a poet or philosopher. Her message is typical worldly vanity, feminist hypergamy. She has been through the actors and musicians, and now she will run through the sports stars. I hope I am wrong. We'll see.

Does her music speak to me? No. But it speaks to alot of others. Alot. Alot. More than you'd think. Alot. Hence the billion dollars. Whatever she's doing, she's obviously doing it right. More power to her.

I can be entertained by watching an occasional one of her performances with the sound turned down for obvious reasons.
