The NFL...Stop the bus I wanna get off.

The choice to either watch or don't watch is afforded us by this:

I actually enjoy watching games in person. I'm just not a fan and don't understand the fan mentality that makes people think that they are part of the team as in "We're going to kick Cleveland's butt this week!" I work with three guys who have adorned their bodies with the logos of Pittsburgh sports teams. What if a team moves?

I also don't understand the need to have a bunch of over the hill coaches and players telling me what I just saw and why everyone did everything wrong.

Very true Rusty.

But the man kneeled while our National Anthem was playing and the flag was flying.

The two most revered symbols of "life, liberty and happiness".

Hanoi Jane didn't get a pass. Why should professional athletes? Are we so caught up in professional sports that we look the other way?

A man should take a stand for what he believes is right and wrong. This wrong. I will never forgive the NFL.

I used to be a huge fan.

I tune in from whistle to whistle. I pay no heed to pre-game or post-game.

As long as I am paying for my satellite/WiFi I will continue to do just that.

It's entertainment.

Football, NFL, other sports. Perhaps some of it, especially for young people, is about demonstrating, learning, how we handle adversity. That's a good thing, I think.

It's fun to watch sports because we can see our potential, as humans, physically, and, of course, we can also watch the reactions as to how our fellow humans, more gifted than we, handle the trials and tribulations, the victories and the defeats, of the game, emotionally.

I don't follow sports, professional or otherwise, much. But every now and then, Superbowl, NCAA basketball Sweet 16 and on down, the occasional boxing championship, NBA championships, World Series, Olympics, etc., I follow. I watch. I enjoy the suspense, the competition, the physical vitality, the emotional resilience, and the impressive focus and discipline essential to being able to compete at a high level.

I think those who abandoned NFL football because some players decided to kneel are foolish. Freedom of speech! Guaranteed to our people by our Constitution! Freedom of expression. It's a free country, right? Kneeling, throughout history, furthermore, has been a way to show respect...

Why get in a tizzy about it?

Hey, it's a football game. Game. Plus, this world is filled with people who (I think) are foolish in their opinions — as some may feel about kneeling football players — but whose abilities, whose accomplishments, I admire.

I don't get why some of us expect everyone should agree with us 24/7... Ain't gonna happen, bros... Just the way it is.

I think I am fortunate to have long-term, close friends with whom I disagree strongly about some things... I think that is normal for we humans. How boring, how limiting, to associate only with those with whom we agree about everything!

With apologies for late night ruminations that may upset some, and best wishes to all.

(Burp... Off to bed...)

I also have the freedom to not listen to that speech and my employer has the right to restrict what I say while I'm on his dime.

Big time wrong. Kneeling is generally a sign of obeisance, a form of groveling. I've been told that's why Jews don't kneel to pray. Also, why we don't kneel when getting an award from the President. Kapernick meant it as a sign of disrespect.

FWIW, I think those who follow NFL football and dress up like their favorite players are foolish. When I was young, unless you had a personal connection to a team, you stopped stopped wearing player jerseys when you hit puberty.

Well said, Arlo. It just grates me when the broad brush is applied to paint those who enjoy the game as somehow being unpatriotic. It reeks of irascibility.

Since the NFL is about as woke and anti-American as an organization can be, supporting them is viewed by many as being as unpatriotic as buying a Lada.

If I had my way, the military would stop doing fly-overs and parachute demonstrations at NFL games.

I'll be an outlier here (along with Rusty). I like to watch pro football. It goes back to my childhood when there were only two pro teams in any sport on the West Coast, the Rams and the 49ers. The Rams had great players like Bob Waterfield, Norm Van Brocklin, and Crazylegs Hirsch. The 49ers had the fun-to-watch Alphabet Backfield with Y.A. Tittle, J.D. Smith, R.C. "Alley-Oop" Owens, and C.R. Roberts. Then the Chargers moved to San Diego, and I got to watch them in person as they demolished the Boston Patriots 51-10 in the 1963 AFL Championship game. I was hooked and still am. I only pay attention to the games and simply ignore the political, gambling, business, and Taylor Swift stuff (easy to do). The one thing about the NFL that really bugs me though, was articulated perfectly by SMSgt:

... I gave up on the NFL when some guy just had to do his victory dance for making a tackle when his team was behind 42-7.

Those "victory dances" are just plain stupid.

I saw where a seat costs as much as $9,800. Add parking and refreshments and it gets close to or over $10,000. For a game.

I found this comment of interest. I had not thought before about Jews kneeling or not kneeling. Looking into it, I came across this article wherein three rabbis express their understanding of kneeling:

Interesting. Thanks. The rabbi that told me about kneeling long ago had told me that it they were being respectful but not subservient. It looks like there is more to it than I had thought.

Not passing judgement against you brother.

This isn't just about what happens between the whistles. It's the fact that the players and organizations brought politics into the game. The game isn't football. The game is wokeness and trying to appease the activists that are in the minority. They stay in the spotlight because people support them. I won't.

I cannot and will not forgive anyone that disrespects our country or law enforcement because they think that their opinion matters. It doesn't.

That's for the worst nose bleed seat in the back row.
