UPS 2nd day air takes 6 days
Label created June 19th, in UPS’s hands June 20th, supposed to be delivered June 25th. I remember when you could trust UPS, but now the names of their shipping options are just cruel clickbait. “Overnight” probably takes 5 days.
Rant over, carry on.

I use and will pay more to use UPS vs USPS.
UPS has never lost one of my packages and delivery times are usually on target.
USPS manages to lose 2-3 packages sent per year (I buy/sell on eBay) and delivery times are a joke. 2-3 days turns into 2-3 weeks.
Not even going to discuss Fedex..may as well put something in a large bottle and bury it before using them.

One tear while on vacation, dad tested all the 1-Day mail services. 30 business days of daily returns overnighted to Florida from Columbus, O. Everything was in triplicate and sent every day on all 3 carriers. Only one day did he not get the info from one of them.
None proved to be any more reliable than the others, but the USPS did stand behind their money back guarantee! It took almost 18 months to get UPS to pay up. After 4 years he gave up getting his money back from FedEx!!
If it absolutely positively has to be there...use a fax!
Ivan
I keep waiting for "Transporters" like on Star Trek, you could hand deliver to the other side of the planet in 30 seconds!

Tele, you kind of failed to mention that there is a weekend involved. And today is Saturday the 22nd. Why don’t you let UPS fail BEFORE you start complaining.
And if you needed your package sooner, you could have ordered it sooner, or had it sent Next Day Air.

After shipping many many items for 30+ years in my professional business career & personal life, I have found that ALL the shippers are pretty poor. The best of the worst is UPS, then Fedex and scraping the bottom of the barrel is the USPS. I think they should bring back Railroad Express Agency and the Pony Express - they might be faster and better! LOL
I could fill this entire page with horror stories of the USPS - suffice it to say, if you think UPS is bad, the USPS is ................

No sir, what I failed to mention is that the package arrived in my city this morning, but it still says it will be delivered Tuesday. Is Monday a holiday?
It was most definitely not worth paying more than double for overnight, if this is how they do things.
Who knows, maybe it’ll be delivered today. Maybe not.

Chief, I think you meant all CARRIERS are poor. (I vehemently disagree) UPS is a Carrier, not a shipper. The shipper is for example what we used to call a mail order business; like MidwayUSA.
In my 43.5 years as a professional UPS driver (now retired), what I saw was a lot of poor packaging. The resulting damage was then blamed on UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc. The people sending out the package in the first place, who were too cheap, lazy, or simply unknowing to sufficiently package items, were most responsible. I’m not saying UPS was never at fault when damages occur, but the vast majority of damages is the result from insufficient packing.
Me personally, I’ve sent a lot of packages UPS over the years.
I use a lot of tape, always double box. I have so much faith in my packaging, and UPS, that I don’t insure my stuff because I know it’s going to get there unharmed.
I knew all the mail carriers, as well as the FedEx drivers in my area. They’re all fine, top notch people. At least they were a couple of years ago.

If your package is in your city, as you say it is, at this point, your package is on time.
It should be delivered on Monday. Monday is not another frivolous new holiday, to the best of my knowledge.
I can’t explain why your package is in your town but the tracking says it is going to be delivered Tuesday unless the shipper (like MidwayUSA) used that goofy Sure-Post, where UPS delivers the package to the post office, then the post office delivers it the next day. If that the case, that is on the shipper, not the carrier.
Or maybe the tracking is wrong.
Did you specify, and pay extra for 2 day shipping?

I specified 2-day, as it was the lower cost option. It’s a 1911
“2-day” only applies to the transit time, clearly. Not the time being shuffled around a distribution center. Seems like once upon a time it meant two days from the shipper to your door. I suppose it says that in the fine print somewhere, but it’s still mis-named.

On a happier note, the MecGars I ordered from Gun Mag Warehouse took 4 days by USPS. The USPS tracking site has been down, so I don’t know when they were due. See… no promises = no disappointment.

Exactly. If it is delivered Monday the 24th, you will be getting it 2 business days after they picked it up. That is what 2-Day Air has always meant. 2 BUSINESS days - weekends don't count.
Now if they really don't get it to you until Tuesday the 25th, THEN your 2-Day Air package will have been delivered in 3 business days. It is a fail, but not nearly the fail that 5 days would be.

That's funny, because for years here Fedex were the go to guys in the Vegas valley. UPS were the clowns that stated I refused a delivery at my home when I was 13 miles away at work.

My daughter ordered something from Amazon, and FedEx said they delivered it, but it was nowhere in her apartment building. Amazon refunded her money so she could re-purchase it, and the original delivery magically appeared a week after they said it was delivered. So she will get two for the price of one, and send the other one back for another refund, I guess.

Whenever I ship something by air, I insist that it travels in the plane's black box.

Nowadays, whoever you get to ship it.....
....hands it off to another carrier and it's always THEIR fault.
BTW: It IS overnight, on Mercury. That's only 56.85 'Earth days'.

That's nothing! I was sitting in my driveway waiting for a package to be delivered by USPS. Mail truck drives right on by without stopping. I go to the mailbox to get my mail and there's a notice saying the package was undeliverable.
UPS was always great in my neighborhood. Now all you see is Amazon Prime.

Seems that UPS tracking is getting strange. Several times in the last couple of months something I ordered was to be delivered on say a Thursday I get a notice that that the order will now arrive on Friday. Then another notice that Thursday is the day it will arrive. Then it shows up on Wednesday. I like to be home when orders arrive so trying to keep up with orders is driving me nuts. Midway USA is very good about fast shipping but once the order is turned over to the carrier it becomes a **** shoot.

We have not heard any more from our friend Telecaster after his rant, his words not mine, about UPS’s big failure; how a second air package takes 6 days. Never mind the failure never occurred, and the last we heard the package was right on schedule to be delivered in 2 business days as it should.
I spent 42.5 years of my life employed at UPS. My fellow UPSers and I put a lot of effort and pride in our work. And on top of that, a lot of us invested in UPS stock; we have skin in the game. For someone to reach down and grab a handful of muck and throw it at UPS, and its people for something that MIGHT happen was uncool to say the least.
Hey Steve, why don’t you tell me where you work so I can call you and your co-workers a bunch of clowns. I figure if you can dish it out, you ought to be able to take it. (Truth be told, I could never do something like that because respect was instilled in me and my generation)
Ok, I’m finished.

Yep, nowadays you're better off just paying for UPS Ground. It will get there just as fast as paying way too much for their "quicker" options. I deal with this every day.

If I want it NOW-I go to the store and buy it. Otherwise I pick the cheapest shipping and wait for it-I am usually surprised at how quickly it gets to the house. If you NEED something right away and it is across country it is usually because of YOUR fault. WANTING instant gratification is a different story. I've got plenty enough things in my life that really piss me off already that I try not to add more to the list

For the most part Caje is right. I ordered the things from Amazon and have gottentwo of the 3 items..The rest will get here sooner or later...but the shoe IS on the other foot when I ship an item that I sell on say ebay. I send it USPS priority...well packed in their packaging..saying delivery in 3 days..I will figure 4 and be happy. I just sold an item for a lady whose husband had passed away.. A 2000 dollar reloader. I sent a check to her Priority mail. To Oregon from Wyoming. 8 days later still not there. no tracking since it left the post office. I know that mail regular mail becomes lost...but a 3 day peiority should at least be able to be found. I think(ok I know) I PO'd the post master off. But they sent another check priority at no charge to me...3 days later she had it. The first still not a whisper. This is not the first problem I have had...and it may just be the system they use here.. I can send a letter to someone in my own zip. They have to send it to Casper and come back 2 or 3 days later to here rather than allow the postmistress to walk over and put the letter in the local PO box and be delivered...That is at the least inefficiency or outright stupidity. This is why I pay most bills over the phone.

You guys do realize that UPS United Parcel Service and
USPS United States Postal Service
Are 2 completely different entities, right?
I used to run into customers all the time as a UPS Driver who thought I was a government employee. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Being in the middle of now where I get a lot of stuff off the net. I have seen packages set for days in a location, get shuttled to odd locations, disappear, sometimes reappear some times not. I have got a ripped up box taped back together with something completely different that what I ordered inside. Some of it is on time and some of it becomes a mystery.

I’ll assure you that UPS packages don’t sit for days anywhere. The exception being 3 day weekends etc. UPS gets paid after the package is delivered. There is absolutely no incentive to warehouse packages. UPS does not have any warehouses.
What the United States Postal Service does, I have no clue.
I recently, June 26, 2024 recieved a book that I ordered on May 3, 2024. That’s 8 weeks later, for people who think 2 day air takes 6 days. That was NOT the Postal Service’s fault. The shipper simply didn’t think it was important to send the book out, even tho they had my money for 7 weeks before doing so.
And if your package is busted open, crushed, etc there’s a 90%chance the shipper went cheap and lazy on the packaging. My $89 hard cover book came in a padded envelope. I’m pleasantly surprised that it arrived undamaged.

Yeah, I ran into that a lot too.
The current "parrtnerships" - like UPS SurePost - where the package is picked up by UPS and transported cross-country by UPS and then turned over to the USPS for that "last mile" of the delivery journey to the end customer, just further confuses the situation.
If the package is "late", who does the customer blame - UPS, or USPS?
Most don't dig into the details, they just blast whoever they *think* is responsible for their lack of instant gratification.
In this case we are still waiting to hear SOMETHING from Telecaster about how this situation worked out. He decided it was worthy of a RANT thread, but he hasn't actually let us know if there was a REAL failure - as opposed to a POTENTIAL failure to deliver.
The fact that he hasn't come back to update the thread nearly a week after he loudly proclaimed that UPS was failing to meet his expectations makes me think that the package was probably delivered on time and in good condition.
If it hadn't been, I'm certain he'd have been back here screaming about it at the top of his lungs. In my experience it is the dissatisfied customers who scream the loudest. You don't hear anything from the millions who get their deliveries on time and in good condition every day, day in and day out.
So, to Telecaster, I want to say, c'mon man! How did it all turn out? Has the package been delivered - or NOT? If so, WHEN was it delivered? Was it on time - or was it late?
Inquiring minds want to know!
