Snow days in retirement

I was forced out the door at 60 in a cost cutting move. Did some consulting, successfully, for a couple of years. Fully retired now for ten or so.

Love it.

While I worked hard for a lotta years to fulfill my responsibilities, and very much appreciate the financial security that brought to my retirement, I don't like working. I don't get bored. I am not all that active. Mostly take a daily walk, but I primarily spend my time relaxing. (Even when I was working, when people would ask me, "Would you work if you didn't have to?," my response was, "Are you kidding?!")

It continues to amaze me that I no longer work and people send me money anyway. Whatta deal!:)

We are definitely brothers from a different mother! :D

I can't express strongly enough how important it is to remain active in retirement and having a purpose to get up and get out every day. To many times you hear of those who retired and sat around with nothing to do and nothing to keep them active who just sort of wasted away earlier than they should have.

I retired 7 years ago after 20 years in a private trial practice, then 21 years on the bench in a general jurisdiction trial court. The only criminal stuff I did was felony level. Anyway, I figured out after about two months that I wasn’t very good at retirement so I resumed mediations in civil cases. Been doing that ever since with 5-6 each month. Keeps me active and out of the bars! 🤔
When it snows, though, I get to relax, read a book or tinker with guns and enjoy it. Life in “retirement” is good.
