Default Chock Full of Nuts Coffee

I have been using dark French dark roast for years. IMO, it has now become undrinkable. I am using more coffee and it still tastes watery. Is it me? Electric percolator

They call them "Filler Beans!"

40+ Years ago my solution was to go to the high-priced coffee boutique buy a one pound of something very dark without expresso in the name, get it ground correct for Mr. Coffee. I used half as much and was too strong for my taste. I diluted the good stuff with my grocery store brand and came up with an affordable blend that tasted good.

After the wife and I both had Covid-19, the flavor of coffee isn't what our memories say it should be.

You need to make drip coffee. Try a Melitta cone. More common in plastic (eeyuck!), I found ceramic ones on Amazon. Pour water in your current choice of cup to measure, transfer that to a measuring/mixing cup, heat for 1:45-2:00 minutes in the microwave. Put a level 1/8th cup of coffee into the filter (unbleached Melitta or similar #2 filters) in the cone sitting on your empty cup, break down the grounds with a short pour of the hot water, then pour in the rest of the water. Sounds more complicated than it is. One scoop is good for at least two cups.

Slow drip makes a much better cup than boiling in a percolator, cheaper than a home use K-cup or even a home size Mr.Coffee - which are drip makers, as well. I like Chock Full of Nuts, but I agree it is not as good as it used to be.

Get a French press if you want good coffee.

You're welcome.

Several years ago we were given a Keurig machine as a gift. We both like it a lot. Wife can have the flavored coffees she enjoys while I can have the dark roast types I prefer. One cup at a time, always freshly brewed when desired. Only the two of us at home now, and we each usually have two cups in the mornings so the cost of the K-cups is pretty minimal.

We used a Mr. Coffee machine for many years. I learned to pour the coffee into a good stainless thermos as soon as it was done rather than leaving it on the burner for a couple of hours at a time. This preserves the fresh-brewed flavor for several hours.

I used to drink Starbucks dark roast and then Folger's when it got to be ridiculously priced. Folger's seemed to develop a slightly sour taste and I've been drinking Cafe Bustelo for just about the past year. It's bold yet smooth with no sour taste. It's about $3.25 per 10 oz. brick. Many of the local markets carry it, including Sam's club.

I used to prepare it with a french press and let it steep for 5 minutes, I now just pour it over two scoops in a filter and it's ready a lot sooner.

Exactamundo. I have a cheap Mr. Coffee, and use Melitta filters and Melitta Classic Blend ground coffee...perfect!

I lost all sense of smell and taste with Covid 4 years ago...It's only now vaguely returning...I still need the psychological effect of my morning coffee whether I can smell it or taste it or not...Half a Mr. Coffee pot with 4 heaping tablespoons of the cheaper HEB grounds starts my day......Ben

I drink tea now, but I drank coffee for decades and My friends still do. When They are over I brew coffee in a Pyrex percolator. Bought it in 1968 and it still brews the best coffee. Those guests of Mine who drink it can't believe the old Pyrex pot. Most say it's the best they have ever drank. Oh yeah, I use Folgers.

I prefer cold brew coffee. How long you brew it allows you to tailor it to your tastes. I brew for 24-36 hours.

For a hot brewed coffee I preferred 8 O’Clock.

I have to agree with many of the previous posters. Ditch the percolator.

I prefer 100% Colombian Peaks (whole bean coffee) which I grind myself just before adding to a Cuisinart Gold Tone Coffee Filter, 10-12 Cup Cone. I only make a half pot.

I only drink a few cups in the morning, so I like a medium roast for more caffeine because the darker the roast the less caffeine.

Covid did in my taste and smell senses too, but I still enjoy my morning jolt.

I buy Columbian and snort it. No coffee maker to clean and it wakes me up much faster.

Cold brew, all brews work for me. I run the whatever-they-are brews through a brown paper filter and it gets some of the ****** looking stuff out of the liquid. Much smoother taste.

Our FAV is eight o'clock Columbian Peaks Medium Roast. We use an electric percolator (Presto 12 cup) or a stainless steel stove top percolator (takes much longer) depending on my mood. Perfect for us! I gave up on "Jock - full of nuts" (lol) many many years ago. Too weak for us. We like hot, tasteful coffee that is slightly bold - but NOT bitter!

How come it's not "Chock Full of Beans" coffee? When they came up with the name "Chock Full of Nuts" what the heck were they thinking?!
