I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of SW Va. We had light showers over night on Friday. Saturday morning everyone woke up with really dirty cars, decks and anything else outside. The dust from storms in Texas and New Mexico carried across the country and fell on us from the rain. First time I have seen this. 😳

Same thing here in Ohio, I was looking at my truck and it looks like I ran it through a dusty construction site wet. I started looking at other cars wondering what happened to my truck and realized they were mud splattered as well.

Came over the Kanawha Valley in central WV. Didn't get my car, but the next door neighbor who works southwest of me did. Her car was a mess. Local weatherman called it "mud rain".

The OP has been lucky. I recall cleaning the results of Sahara rain in England on quite a few occasions.

I was living in western South Dakota when Mt. St. Helens erupted 1200 miles away. It wasn't long before everything was lightly coated with a very fine gray ash.

In Japan, there is a phenomenon called "yellow sand," whereby sand from inland deserts in China and Mongolia, contaminated with industrial pollutants which can be dangerous to one's health, are blown across the sea to Japan. When it's bad, the sky changes color, many people wear masks to protect themselves, and cars and any laundry hanging outside get dirty. It's a yearly thing, with some years being worse than others.

Then there's dirty water in Boston, down by the banks of the river Charles....

It's been really dry in NM and it's the windy season so dust kicks up really easy.

As far as muddy rain, it's normal, for us. It usually rains/sprinkles just enough dirty everything up. But the good thing is the rain smells sooo good!

You're welcome. We have plenty to go around.

Last week we had a little rain here in SWFL. After the rain, the back up camera in my SUV was so dirty I actually had to stop, get out and clean the camera lens. So was the rear window BTW - cleaned that too. I never had that happen before and was puzzled by it, not realizing at that time exactly what had occurred.

Once while driving my black GMC pickup to Florida from NY, I got to Columbia SC area and noticed how bad the pollen was. Leaving a Burger King a guy says “man I’ve never seen that much pollen dust on a vehicle. It really shows up on black paint”. I explained that it was road salt residue. The first 175 mi of my trip down I90 and I79 I was in 4 wheel drive in a snow storm. That’s why 10 yr old vehicles in NE look much different than 10 yr old vehicles in Columbia SC
