Just watched a mediocre movie on YouTube.
They could have used some better actors !
The cast includes- Gary Cooper, Eddie Albert, John McIntre, Jack Webb, Charles Bronson, Ed Begley, Jack Warden and Lee Marvin.
Before they got famous!
After being in this flick, they are fortunate to be become famous!

I don't know about all of them, but Eddie Albert was a young Navy officer running landing craft to the beach at Guadalcanal, Navy Cross as I recall. Charles Bronson was a WW2 veteran, Purple Heart and other awards I've read. Lee Marvin was a WW2 Marine, served in the Pacific Theater.

Elvis Presley accepted his draft notice and served as a tank crewman in Germany, honorable discharge. Mohammad Ali (Cassius Clay) fought his draft notice in court, costing him his title and standing for several years.

John F. Kennedy, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Richard Nixon were all Navy officers in the same areas during the WW2 Pacific Campaign. Jimmy Stewart was a bomber pilot during WW2, continued as a reserve officer after the war and retired as a Brigadier General.

Elvis was in basic training at Ft. Dix I think after I left for Germany, but Roosevelt Grier, who was at RFK's assassination, was a class behind me. Celebrities got special treatment. The 6 month wonders (6 month RFA act) were despised by us draftees and the cadre were rough on them.

I have an old friend who arrived at Ft. Hood, TX about the same time Elvis Presley did, and he actually talked to him. Might have been in a different company, he also saw Elvis in Germany.

He said a day or so after Elvis arrived an entourage arrived with his car, et al and Elvis asked if any of the other soldiers got to have all their stuff. When told “No”, Elvis told them to take it all away.

I saw the 'must watch' tag.......

And I watched it also. Yeah, not a great movie, but entertaining for me being more about engineering shakedowns than a war movie but I could have used a little more realism. But yeah, it had all kinds of old stars in it. Funny thing is Bronson wasn't credited even though he h.ad actual speaking parts that amount to a lot more than 'Yes Sir
and 'Pipe Down'. He was selected and was traing for a squadron boxing match, until he gets injured. The pickles they get in are contrived, drawn out and not that funny. It was made in 1951 and I wonder why, except that it seemed to exist in order to give the reserves credit and they make it a point to tell everybody that during the war many of the reserve forces were IN the war, but I don't know why they felt that had to be explained to people in 1950.

I was in Ollie’s today (for those who don’t know what Ollie's is, a chain store that sells distressed merchandise). They sell a lot of books. One of them was a book of stories about famous personalities who served in WWII, like Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Glenn Miller, etc. I thumbed through it and it looked interesting but I did not feel it was worth the $6.99 price. I might have bought it at $3.
