Cop Movies
I was thinking about all the great movie threads we've had on this Forum, and I can't remember ever having one on Police Movies. (Of course, my memory is on the decline ).
I'll bet we could come up with quite a list.
One that I would like to see again is The New Centurians. IIRC, that one has a scene where two skells attempt to stick up a bar only to discover it's a cop bar. One of those "If only this could happen!" scenes.

Sharky's Machine !
Gotta love that one - Burt Reynolds, Charles Durning, Brian Keith, Earl Holliman, arch-villain Henry Silva, Dwayne (Dobie Gillis) Hickman, and ( drool) Rachel Ward !
Great cast, great weapons, good plot and just the right mix of action and wry humor.

Cop Movies
Bullit is my all time favorite, while not quite a cop movie, The Usual Suspect is not bad as well.

I saw that when it came out about 27 years ago. Liked the scene where Rachel Ward asked for a hug and Reynolds replied, "I haven't got a thousand dollars."

Good one- great San Francisco chase seen, and clasic Alan Arkin.
Another good one set in San Fran, but not a comedy, is Walter Mathau in "The Laughing Policeman" (also featuring a young Bruce Dern and Louis Gossett Jr.!).
Speaking of Walter Matthau... "The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3" is a great cop movie. I'll be interested to see how good the remake is- it might have some potential to be pretty decent.

Witness, starring Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis is a big favorite. My wife likes it too.

Couldn't get into that one, since I thought when those two got together it should have been "Dirty Harry meets Sharky". THAT would have been a heck of a movie.
"City Heat" was played too much to the silly side for me. It had it's moments but with those two in the same flick I had higher expectations.

I liked "Heat" and recently, "The Departed". The Jesse Stone movies are awesome in my opinion, I've loved each and every one.
Take care...

Hi:
"Cop Movie"is "Newman's Law" starring George Perpard.
Having just returned from being beat up and being engaged in a gunfight,George entered a Country Club where a group of Police Supervisors (Desk bound Commandos) were having a Bandquet.
George stood in the doorway of the Bandquet Room and inquired "Why aren't you "Dip Sh-ts out patrolling the streets?"
