One of those bittersweet situations. A very desirable and valuable gun if in good original condition, but yours is in awful condition. Still a cool gun and any S&W lover would want it. But the lack of original finish and stocks lowers the value by thousands of dollars.

The list in the book is not precise enough to ID the dates you seek. Maybe somebody knows.

I know I am out of the mainstream but I would not pay 875 for a 28-2 with cheap aftermarket grips. The 28 is a service grade revolver and I don't think it should command that much money. I realize everyone will disagree and it's your decision.

I doubt it was a new barrel. That flat spot is where they ground off the original caliber marking. Sure it was sleeved.
