    I died on July 15, 2011

Rondo, You are one of the ones that God threw back for a second chance, like myself. Sept 16, 1988 I had my heart attack and also was clinically dead. Somehow the cardiologist on call at the hospital was guided by God and I came back. I was 47 at the time. Spent 5 days in intensive care and...

    617

One of the best! I have had my 617 6", 6 shot square butt no dash since early 1990 (bought new). It shoots great and is a twin to my 686 no dash bought new in late 1985. You will really like it!

    686-6

I have owned my 686 no dash since new in 1985 and used it for Bullseye, plinking and IPSC matches. Occasionally I will use the load I make for my 52-2 which is 2.9 grains of Bullseye behind a 148 grain DEWC in my slightly shortened 38 cases. The cases need to shortened for reliable feeding in...

    New 686 (No Dash)

You'll really like it, unfortunately they can become addictive. Bottom to top: 1985 686 no dash, no M, 1990 617 no dash, 1985 586 no dash -M. The 686 has the best trigger I have ever shot on a revolver, smooth as glass 8lb 0 oz in double action, with the 586 not very far behind and the 617 not...

    Model 586

I think $500 is too much for a "fair" condition one with no box or papers. About 18 months ago, I paid $400 for one in excellent condition, with the modification done. I believe that mine is 95% or better, as does my gunsmith/dealer who handled the transaction on my end.

Modifiying M-52 Mags for six shots?

I did my 3 magazines about 30 years ago lengthening the slot using a cutoff disc in my Dremel tool. It may not be the prettiest thing but they have worked flawlessly since 1981. I did it so I could shoot Illinois Police Pistol competition with the 52. When others saw what I had done suddenly I...

    686 Trigger Pulls

My experience with L frame revolvers is this. I bought my 6" 686 no dash new in Sept 1985. It has never been worked on, SA is 2 lb 10 oz and DA is 8 lb 0 oz. My 6" 617 was bought new in March 1990 and never been worked on. Its SA is 3 lb 7 oz and DA is 10 lb 14 oz. About a year and a half ago...

Want to get 686 have questions?

A couple of points. I would go for a stock 686 and shoot it for a bit.You might get one like mine which did not need an action job at all. It happens to be a 6". I also have a 4" 586. Its trigger is good but could be helped by an action job. As far as carry, an L frame is pretty wide and these...

    S&W 52 reloading

JR, that is the first modified magazine I have seen beyond my 3 and a bunch that I did for some shooters in the club I was in back in the early '80's. I, too used my 52-2 to shoot PPC for a few years before getting my first Colt 70 Series. Still have that 52 and it still shoots great. My load is...

Driving from Pensacola to Milwaukee Best Route ?

I tought about suggesting this route also. It is 95 miles longer. It could take 1 1/2 hours longer if one does not have any problems going from the top of I65 to the south side of Milwaukee, but with the construction and the propensity for accidents along I90/94 it could actually take less time...

Driving from Pensacola to Milwaukee Best Route ?

Once you get on I65, you can stay on it all the way to its northern end in Merrillville Indiana. At its very northern end, the last few miles before I80/90/94 there is construction. This construction has been ongoing for the last 3 years. You'll want to hit the intersection of I65/90 between...

    686 Trigger pull

Min, a dash 0, bought in Sept of 1985 has a smooth and slick 8lb 00oz DA pull and a 2lb 09oz SA pull. It has never been worked on and was like that right out of the box. I also have a dash 0 586 from 1985 that has a 9lb 00oz DA and a 3lb 03oz SA pull that is smooth and slick. As a comparison my...
