I have a six shot, four inch, pre lock round butt 617. Probably the most accurate .22 S&W Revolver I have. I have K-22s and Model 18s. But for an all a round field gun, the 617 is tops.

Rule 303

You will not regret getting one

If you can find one,of course.they are a fine plinker, camp gun, and everything else .22LR is appropriate for. I have had mine for about 20 years or so and I will never get rid of it except to pass on to my oldest son.I seriously doubt you could wear one out ina lifetime of shooting

I wanted a 22 revolver for some time. I looked at gun stores with no luck and waited; then I found one for sale on this site. A must have model for revolver fans.

One of the best! I have had my 617 6", 6 shot square butt no dash since early 1990 (bought new). It shoots great and is a twin to my 686 no dash bought new in late 1985. You will really like it!

They are a excellent 22LR Revolver and like others have said a must have.

I love my no dash 617

617's are the biggest piece of... ever to be put on the market.! If you come across a 6" -1 with a square butt do not buy it, i repeat, do not buy it! Instead, contact me immediately and i will buy it so no other good citizen would be tempted to enjoy...i mean be burdened with such a piece of...

I got mine last April. A 6" 10 shot w/Hogue combat grips. It's a pre-lock and was like new. It was $550.00 and that's why I got it. Always thought about getting one but not at $700.00+.

At first it was rather heavy, especially since I injured my shooting hand about a month before. Now it feels much better and I am shooting better with it. It is the heaviest 22 I have. It weighs about as much as my 6" Python and it is almost the same size. I am very happy to have it. It is making me a better shooter.

Yep....I got one of those too. As an aside and as information, I recently had an occasion to call Smith on another matter and asked if there were any recalls outstanding on the 617 ND. I was told no.

Just do it!

I had a friend tell me he passed on a NL 4-inch 617 at a show last week for $450. He has a table and a guy came up and offered it to him, but he does not know the value of this gun....he sells the junk and had no idea what this gun was worth. I am still eating his butt out.

I think they are great, I have both a 4'', and a 6" no dash. They are very accurate.

I have a 8 3/8 617 10 shot. I don't need a 22 rifle as long as I own that one. Just as accurate as a rifle.

More fun for the money than any other gun in my "arsenal" --- look for a 10 round version, and at a 4" bbl. --- some say that longer barrels are awkwardly muzzle heavy... You should not deny yourself the pleasure of 617 ownership!

I'm a very new 617 owner, having bought my almost un-used 6", 6-shot, pre-lock earlier this year. I have about 30 Smiths, but this is one of my favorites. Buy one and you will never be sorry. It is a true S&W.

I agree and when I go to the range there is always at least one S&W 22LR revolver in the range bag be it a Model 617, Model 18, Model K22, Model 17 or a semi auto S&W Model 41. I shoot my centerfire revolvers first and then relax and shoot the 22's and if it's not blazing hot out I will shoot at least 300 rounds through the 22LR revolvers I brought on that range trip.
