    586 or Python?

I have a 686 and 2 Pythons. I can atest to the fact that Pythons do go out of time quickly. My first Python went out of time around 2500 rounds. My second Python I have not shot enough for it to go out of time yet. My 686 has about 2000 rounds and is going strong. While I have no experience with...

    s&w 9mm revolvers

You say .38 Special is expensive or hard to get, have you given some thought into handloading your own practice ammo. With the straight walled .38 Special it is not that difficult. Get some good reloading manuals and study. When you're ready check out reloading press makers. With the prices...

    Ideal revolvers to replace Shield?

While a J frame is easier to carry I'm for the 6 shot K frame with a 2 - 3 inch barrel. They are slightly bulkier than the J frame but the trigger pulls are much better. The J frames I have tried in the last 20 years were terrible to say the least.

S&W newbie with M15 USAF question

Welcome to the forum. The 15 was standard issue for more than just the Air Force. Many police and sheriff's departments issued them as well. One big department that comes to mind is LAPD. Police and sheriff marked 15s may be more plentiful than the Air Force models. Either way enjoy your...

Age and care for a 10-5

The crane number is either a part number or an inspectors mark. It should be able to handle +P ammo with no problem at all. As for price it varies on location and seen condition. Some guns that may go for $500 in one part of the country could go for $400 or even $600 in another. One thing...

    Close Looking for a 357

You may want to consider one in stainless steel. They resist rust better than the blued ones. You may be able to find a used S&W 66 at a reasonable price. If not a Ruger BlackHawk or Vaquero may fit the bill nicely. There seems to a endless amount of choices in the 357 arena. Enjoy the search.

    Seeking Input: Impressions RE: 3 1/2" N-Frame .357

I have a 4 inch model 28-2 so a 3 1/2 inch 27 would not be to difficult. The only problem might be finding a holster specifically for the 3 1/2 inch barrel. That said I would love a 3 1/2 inch 27.

    65-3 3”

Considering the 3 inchers are somewhat prized I would say you did excellent. I bought the same model about 12 years ago for $375 and it only came with extra grips.

Bead blast finish on “Combat Magnums?”

What part of the country are you in? I have a S&W model 686 that I used as an armed security patrol officer and supervisor for many years in the 1980s. It was in every weather condition you could imagine with the exception of salt air (coastal areas). Mine never rusted even a little. After...

    Current Revolver Duty Gear?

Keep trying Ebay. A few years a go I saw a Safariland swivel holster for a 4 inch K frame. After three days no one had bid on it so I put in a $10 bid and low and behold 2 days later I won the bid. I was the only one to bid on it. I expected a very good condition but used holster but it was...

Interesting Letter from Roy, Now What to Do???

Only if you have the provenance for the gun. Most of the time stories I hear are little more than hot air.

    M 547

I have not shot mine much but I would say they are worth buying. Remember there are fewer 4 inch barrels than 3 inch barrels. BTW mine is a 4 inch barrel and looks almost like my model 10-8. There are a few differences but not many. Of course the caliber, the barrel is actual 4 1/8 inch, the...

Interesting Letter from Roy, Now What to Do???

I have always heard buy the item not the story. While it has an interesting story that is all it is, interesting. The item itself is what would be sold (if you decide to sell it). I would leave it as it is and enjoy it.

What was your first N frame?

My first N frame is a 4 inch 28-2 I still have after all these years. I got it around 1982 new. It shows a lot of holster wear as it should since I carried it nightly for about 3 years as an armed security officer. It helped in many hairy situations.
