Putting a few dabs of Absorbine Jr, on the underside of the bill of your cap works good for me. Deet won't do a thing for gnats - works good for mosquitos though. Abosorbine Jr. won't help keep skeeters away so you need to use both products if skeeters and gnats are a problem.
