Most expensive firearm you ever bought or almost bought?

15 grand for a Colt S A 1890 vintage black powder .45 4 3/4. Lettered to El Paso Texas. Had some documents of ownership and provinance to an El Paso resident. I purchase the gun in California and traveled a week later to sell it for a nice profit to an El Paso Collector. The good old days are gone.

Who does professional S&W style blueing?

I have a very nice mecahnical condition 5 inch barrel 32-20 1905 revolver that's just screaming to be refinished. There's no pitting and all writing is in deep. What finish is left I don't want removed by buffing, chemical removing only. Any response is appriciated by Captain Beyond. Nickle is...

Why do Colt snakes sell for so much more than comparable S&W's

I've owned and worked on Colt Single Action, pre-wars, since the sixties and they're the only Colts except for a New Service from 1927 nickle 44 Russian 5 inch shipped to Fort Worth during the Depression. It ends there. Smith revolvers are the king to me. I purchased(when I had an FFL in the...

    Help Identifing 2 Handguns

Sorry I saw you had the numbers posted. Here are the approximate years for each gun. The 1905 38spl. is approx. 1909. The 32 S&W long is a Fifth Change HE approx mfg date 1916. These are guesstimates from blocks. The 38 block was 1909-1915 starting with 146900 ending with 241703 making 1614xx...

    Help Identifing 2 Handguns

Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson by Jim Supica and Richard Nahas has serial numbers. In the early guns they do them by blocks so you would be off by about a year either way. A letter is $50 per gun and takes about two months to recieve. The time delay from S&W is because Roy Jinks is busy...

    32-20 is now home

I collected Colt SAs for years and always thought the gun was too big for the cartridge. I liked the 32WCF but not in the colts even the DAs. Then I found a 5" S&W and that was the match for that cartridge. Since finding the first one I needed to find the 6". I did and it came with one of those...

    anyone here load 380 acp

I reload for my Berretta 380 and Browinig BDA 380. I use 95gr FMJ rather than cast which I have. The reason, they malfuntion in my pistols even with factory crimp dies being used. I don't have a problem with FMJ bullets. I don't want my life to depend on my cast bullet reloads. As for powder I...

    38 spcl loads for snubbies

In my youth some forty years ago Red Dot and Bullseye mistreated me or maybe I misused them, I hate to admit this as a reloader. In my old age now I reload the little 32s autos and revolvers. Accurate number 2 is very versatile all the way up to the 45 auto. I used Unique for years in my 38...

    It's not a Smith and Wesson M&P

That's a neat rifle. I love bolt guns and the magazine feed is really nice. I have a last run of Winchester model 70 without the claw extractor just the old jeweled bolt and it's magazine fed 30-06 and I love it. Happy Shooting.

    Grail gun. Not a S&W

Being an old ground pounder in the US Army I was issued the 1911 to go with my M-79 grenade launcher. The 1911 being an old refurbished worn out piece of **** I didn't pursue the newer ones when I mustered out. That is until a few years ago when I bought a used Series 80 in 45. I started...

    Uberti revolvers-Good shooters?

I collected original pre-war Colt single actions since the late sixties. I used to try to shoot all of them even the black powder ones. I stopped doing that years ago. I purchased the Uberti black powder frame 7 1/2 Conneticut model single action in 45 to shoot and it's great. The sear and bolt...
