But it'll use the same magazines as a Smith M&P!

Seriously - I read about this Mossberg MVP bolt rifle that uses AR-15 magazines and could NOT resist ordering one. I've shot it once with a cheap scope and we got a 1" group out of it (shot by my buddy). My groups were a bit larger.

Now I've got a better scope on it (a Center Point 4-16 that another friend swears is a winner) and hope to take it out to the range this weekend to see what it'll do.

Just something about a bolt gun. I like my ARs but with a bolt you know it'll always shoot no matter what.

What are the particulars on it, twist rate barrel length and such?

Other than a Mosin Nagant, I don't have a modern bolt action rifle. That Mossberg MVP looks like a contender, especially since it accepts AR15 Mags.

I look forward to reading your range report.

Grover... according to the Mossberg website, it has a 1:9 twist rate. 24" for the Varmint line. 18.5" for the Predator line.

That looks like the predator model. I've looked at one in the varmit model and they are pretty bad***. The one thing I don't like is also one of the things I do like...the AR mag. Very convenient and a great idea, but limited to loading only to mag length COAL. This really limits accuracy potential IMO, but probably a nonissue I you're gonna shoot bullets less than 65 gr. A good trigger and stock also. I think it's a very good rifle and reasonably priced.

Mossberg MVP

The rifle I bought has a 20" barrel. No 18.5 inchers were available. They seem to be in short supply right now.

I understand the 24" barreled rifle has been around for a year or so - I just had never heard about them until a month or two ago - think I read about it in the NRA online magazine. Decided I had to have one!

I have a Mauser, a Ruger M77 3006 and Ive been debating on getting the Ruger scout rifle

That's a neat rifle. I love bolt guns and the magazine feed is really nice. I have a last run of Winchester model 70 without the claw extractor just the old jeweled bolt and it's magazine fed 30-06 and I love it.
Happy Shooting.

From what I read about them they are chambering in 5.56 and are developing a great reputation!

Don't turn up your nose at a Mossberg bolt-action rifle. About a year ago, I bought one of the Mossberg "Maverick" bolt action rifles in .30-'06 for $180, new, at Academy Sports, And I find it to be easily capable of 5-shot 1" (or less) C-to-C groups at 100 yards. It has a plastic stock, a metal finish that looks like black paint (but it is probably something like Parkerizing), but so what? The only fault I can find is that the trigger pull is heavy and a bit gritty, but I can get used to that. And Mossberg makes and sells more pump shotguns than anyone else, even to the Military. There must be a reason for that.

FINALLY - THE perfect machine
Always works - No Matter What

Really?

Looks cool!

Have you tried running Pmags through it?

I am of the opinion that any rifle that excepts standard AR mags is worth a look (yes even the su-16).

I've been giving some thought to an MVP Predator for a while now. Probably the 20" fluted barrel. I see on the Mossberg site that it comes in a choice of "length of pull", matte or "matte blue". Not sure which one to get.
