Early Piquette Engraved Class C
While looking on the forum I discovered this early gem of mine. It is Class C and if you can find when it was done that would at least date it. I can tell you it is one that I engraved and honestly it was the sideplate that convinced me of that fact. Hope that...
I noticed a small mistake that Russ made and I find it rather interesting. Take note of the closeup of the engraved cylinder, some of the leaves in the flute were not shaded. This engraved gun is extremely rare and in my opinion as an engraver it is priceless, I would love to own this myself...
I have a question, I was given a model 66-4 4" for my 20 years of service with Smith & Wesson back in late 1999. I had removed the sight assembly to mount rails and scope. I have lost the assembly. I'm looking for a replacement but what sight blade measurement should it have had? .196, .146 and...
Engraving Fixture
Nice to see pictures of engraving from in-house engravers at S&W. What I like is the picture of her actually engraving a frame using a fixture that I used in 1976 and for years after that. I have one of those fixtures and the wooden sideplate fixtures we used.
Alvin White Engraver
Al White was an engravers engraver, his attention to those extra details were his signature. Gold Inlaid flush gold scrolls and carved grips were his trademarks in many of his finer pieces.
As a young budding engraver at S&W I examined his work and it was what I called meat...
Engraved 625
This is very nicely done and looks familiar. The grips don't belong on the gun as the grip line overlaps the engraving but love the work, who did this?
Engraved Pinto by Jarvis.
The grips don't match the style which tells me they are an A.A.White grip and the style is a scroll arabesque which is close to the Jarvis engraving but not a match. The carving is better executed then the metalwork. Still a nice pinto.
Russ Smith/Paul Piquette Engraved 29
The artwork was done my me and Russ and myself did many guns together. This was an early drawing by me of a sample of class A+ scrollwork. Russ instead of drawing a new design used this one and substituted the animal motifs. I have many drawings from Russ's...
Its not a factory engraved 60. Scrimshaw is well done the scrollwork I've seen before but need to do a bit of research as to who may have engraved it. Odd the barrel wasn't done, maybe to hard? although the cylinders weren't fun to cut either.
Hi Richard, this Texas Ranger was done by Russ Smith and is a fine example of his work. He did a few of these. I think I did one in a Class C coverage.
RKmesa, I have a couple of guns to finish engraving and once that is done I plan on collecting many of the prints, sketches and rubbings of many past engraving projects and maybe having some reproduced as a coffee table book. I also have many of Russ Smith's original sketches from his idea...
