I don't see why I would not publish the cost. It is no secret.

Once I shipped him the gun it cost $1150. including return shipping.

So if I factor in $1500. for the 625-5 Classic. $1200. engraving.
and $300. in wood grips I have $3000. into the package.

And I like the fact that it is stainless and I can shoot it and carry it
if I care to.

I just want to publically Thank You for sharing the Engraving cost.A lot of People tend to not want to post how much it cost in fear of having someone say "You are crazy for paying that much".For the record,I think $1,150 is more than fair for that engraving. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks for posting that info Allen. Sure seems like a lot of hours for that kind of money. Sounds like a good deal to me.

05CarbonDRZ looks like a worthy candidate for one of your floral cut BBQ holsters.

Very nice job. Theo

Allen,

Beautiful gun, and thanks for posting the engraving cost. That seems completely reasonable.

I think a lot of folks, myself included, see gunshow, shop and GB prices of engraved guns many times into the five figures and think it's the engraving driving the value.

Your post kinda brings home the fact that the engraving you had done is about par price for buying a new gun. Hmmmmmm......

Instant classic/collectable.
I don't pay much attention to engraved firearms, but what you had done is perfect.

Very nice.

In regards to the cost of the engraving...
I have been engraving since 1980 as a sideline hobby. I retired about two years ago and am now engraving full time.
I probably look at engraving jobs with a bit more of a critical eye than most gun owners because this is what I do.

I enjoyed the pictorial essay of your engravers work, he did a nice job. However, I have to say that I was a bit taken by what he charged you. If I were to do that same pattern, with the same amount of coverage, the cost would be at least double what you paid. You got a very good deal.

I'd venture to say that when his name gets out there, he is going to be buried in work especially at these prices. He will find himself backlogged a year or more trying to catch up with all his new
clientele waiting to get their job done. He will soon realize, like I did that he is giving his work away.

I would estimate that he has ten days to two weeks in doing this job, (possibly more). That works out to about $10 to $15 per hour. The quality of work on this gun is worth a lot more than that.

Yes, engraving is expensive, but there is a reason why, the engraver is NOT getting rich he is just investing a lot of his time and talent in a project that 99.9% of the general population cannot do.
He is worth more than $15 an hour to accomplish a job like this one.

I wish him the best, he does pretty good work.

Engraved 625

This is very nicely done and looks familiar. The grips don't belong on the gun as the grip line overlaps the engraving but love the work, who did this?
