The .38 case is shorter than the .357. As a direct result there will be a carbon/fowling ring in the chambers at the mouth of the shorter case. This will "hang up" on the longer .357, keeping them from seating fully.

Taking the plate off... No big deal. First, get some hollow ground screwdrivers. (DO NOT use the ones in your tool box.) remove screws securing side plate. (Be sure to not mix them up. They need to go back in the right hole.) Hold gun by barrel, being sure to keep a finger over the side...

Touch and go with Birchwood casey. Some times ok, Some times, wipes right off. (Maybe its me)

Not recomended, but, you "could" remove a bit of the left hand side of the front sight. Again, not recomended for collector's value... But, it should work.

#8-10 ribbed plastic anchors (drywall anchors) make great "snap caps" for 22s. Lowes has em for cheap.:D

I have the same problem on my 629. I plan on re-cutting the forcing cone to an 11 degree taper, as I almost exclusively shoot cast. I made up the reamer and lap to match. I will happily loan it to you if you wish.
