Some people are fine with the LCR trigger reset. I, however, have had major problems with short-stroking it when simply trying to shoot it quickly. Under extreme duress, I am not confident it would go boom every time I pulled the trigger.
I ruled it out on that basis alone.
A friend of mine has one of the standard grip models. He did a really nice trigger job on it and added Crimson Trace 405 lasergrips. His particular model also has a pinned sight, so his also sports a XS big dot.
Aesthetically, the 2.5" inch on the 642 barrel looks just about perfect to me...

i use the laserlyte lt-pro in my 642. it works well. the cone portion does extend slightly from the end of the barrel and the on/off switch is at the very end, so it may or may not work with your holster. if you are not incorporating a draw from a holster as part of your practice, it won't...
