Battery is en route, see if I can't get a cell phone pic up in the meantime.

    Pre model 15 with a 5" barrel?

The camera crapped out on me last week (takes the camera company's battery, and it died), but the serial number is offset and the hole placed accordingly. There is no butt swivel present. When it came to me it had an old Hogue grip on it so the original is lost, but the other numbers match...

    Pre model 15 with a 5" barrel?

I have the same gun, which looks like it was carried in a holster for forty years, and the butt is threaded for a lanyard loop. Did either of those police agencies have a lanyard loop installed or have one delivered from S&W?

    LEO use of Smiths...???...

State of NC calls for a gun to be de-cocked (if it is equipped)before it is holstered after each string of fire. How they carry it is up to them. If a department carries a 1911 (I know of no such department wide carry, just for specialized units) they can carry on an empty chamber or cocked and...

    LEO use of Smiths...???...

I still carry a 4506. It's a fine gun. It feels like a boat anchor on your side after about 12 hours though. That "safety" on the side is a de-cocker, at least that's how we were taught. I carry mine with one in the chamber and the de-cocker is not down. To mirror the other replies, those gun...

    Mystery model 15 help needed

No, it is not marked Model 10. Good point. I guess I never thought about what was used after WWII.

    WTB "RHKP" Revolver

Looking for a S&W or Colt (or even a Webley) revolver (I obviously prefer a Smith) marked for the Royal Hong Kong Police. I would prefer no import marks but if it has one that's ok. I am looking to trade away a Remington 11-87 police custom competition gun, but I'm open to cash as well. Got a...

    Mystery model 15 help needed

I stand corrected! It was a Model 10 (I looked at both at the same time, I guess I got them confused). Serial number C 395XXX puts it in the range of maybe 1955 if I'm reading the catalog right. It has been modified by a gunsmith by stoning the hammer it looks like so that it will fire double...

    Mystery model 15 help needed

Outstanding info, I had no idea that any forces were carrying them, I remember the air crew guns but I didn't think about anyone else.

    Mystery model 15 help needed

I have an old model 15 sitting at the shop I need a little help identifying. I'll post pics in a few days when I pick it up along with a serial number. It looks standard, with the exception that it has a flaming bomb and "us property" stamped on the frame just under the cylinder, on the side the...

    1905 finish help

I want to get my circa 1922 M&P refinished- the blue is gone on it. My question is this: how deeply were these guns originally polished? My 'smith asked me how polished I wanted it and I wasn't sure. Just a bead blast and carded finish is the cheapest, but if it originally had like a four wheel...

Got my letter from Roy on an old gun- pics included

Thanks for the link jellybean- there's actually a bunch on the family genealogy I've found, but less on the company. Those grips do look brown don't they? They look black normally, I guess the flash did that.

Got my letter from Roy on an old gun- pics included

Yup, that's the one. Apparently they were a fairly prodigious sporting goods and hardware company from the early 1800's through the 1900's. that's about all I know. There's a bunch of people online looking for info on the company, but no one seems to be finding any answers. I know they actually...
