I want to get my circa 1922 M&P refinished- the blue is gone on it. My question is this: how deeply were these guns originally polished? My 'smith asked me how polished I wanted it and I wasn't sure. Just a bead blast and carded finish is the cheapest, but if it originally had like a four wheel polish job then so be it. Any ideas?

They were high-polished finishes. There are lots of pictures posted here - take a
look for yourself.

Be very careful about who does the refinishing. More often than not, the
guns gets buffed and polished too much, resulting in a rounding of all the sharp
edges and corners, thus effectively ruining the gun. The work needs to be do
by someone who knows what they are doing, and will retain the sharp edges, etc.
