I have taken 2 hogs with handguns, a 150 pounder with a 357mag, and a 200 pounder with a 454 casull. the 357mag did the job well with a 158gr swc & 15gr of 2400 powder, but the casull with a 265gr CPB LBT bullet & 35gr lil gun knocked the living heck outta that hog @ 50 yards. hardcast bullets...

i have a couple boxes of the old remington R357M1 full power 125gr SJHP ammo. lemmy tell ya those sure do get your attention when you touch them puppys off, you can hit what your shooting at with the fire ball at close range lmao.

i have 4 nice lever guns that i hunt with, 2 brownings, a BLR w/the long magazine & a BLR81 w/the flat magazine, both in the great 358win caliber. a winchester 1894 big bore in 375win caliber. and a marlin 1895 guide gun from the early 2000's, when marlin was really marlin. love them all...

im not sure about the firearm caliber rules for deer hunting in florida, but hearing of the small stature of deer in fla. id say a 223 with stoutly constructed bullets might be a good choice for a 12 year old. minimal kick and less muzzle blast too.

my model 640 is a -2, 38 spl. only, built on the magnum frame. its kinda weird but i love it, its a great carry gun.
