im thinking of buying a 6" model 28-1. its in very good condition, nickle finish looks to be original,
but does not have the original grips, seems to be in fine working order. im just looking for a ballpark number, it has no box or paperwork. any help would be great, ill try to get a good pic up here soon.

If I remember correctly another one sold for around 3k.Would love to see pics especially of the 28-1 stamping.

How about posting some photos of the model stamping inside the crane. If it is indeed a 28-1, you have an extremely rare variation. There may be only ONE other 28-1 specimen in existence. Much too rare to offer a value without actually seeing what you have.

ok, im going to take another look at the gun again tomorrow, ill look for the little N stamps, and snap a photo of the model numbers on the crane too.

I have my doubts . . .

We only know of one Model 28-1 that has been confirmed. I believe it lives in Arizona. I don't remember if it has the 4" or 6" barrel. It would be rather cool to locate a second one. Looking forward to seeing your pics!

Also, a nickel finish is highly suspect.

The Florida Highway Patrolman that were done in Nickel shipped in 1959, which would make them model 28s, not 28-1s.

So if it is Nickel, it's not one of the FHP guns, which were 5" barreled guns.

More research is in order here. A Roy Jinks letter needs to be acquired if the seller is passing it off as a genuine Nickel model 28-1.

Hello OP, I hope it is factory correct. I have spoken to the owner of the
28-1 in AZ and have pics. Pics indicate Sn. as S225243, blue, 6".
Shipped Aug. 6, 1962. The factory nickel is a rarity. Awaiting more news.

Sugar beets, wheat, let her start throw in your corn. If you like add some mashed up Juniper berries, a crushed peppercorns and let it sit for a day before the second trip through :D Why do you ask?

Mike may have been referencing your woolly mammoth sighting, and how it was achieved ;).

An original factory nickel 28-1 would be like Sasquatch riding a unicorn (or a woolly mammoth) while wearing the golden fleece and sipping some of that moonshine from the Holy Grail.

Not impossible, but...

it was a 28-2 not the 28-1 it was advertised as. non original finish w/the nickel flaking off the cylinder. N prefix not S so later production run. not original grips, some rubber ones ive never seen b4. it was tight, it locked up real good, prolly a good shooter to buy if it were in better shape, or 100-150 dollars cheaper. i went into it expecting nothing and came out with nothing, so im even i guess.
