    Wells Fargo Schofield - Authentication

Jeez, what a train wreck that turned into. Gotta say, the condescending tone prevalent in these threads is the primary reason I no longer participate in posting pics and asking for info. I posted a very nice period holster for an 8 in American/1st Russian a while back and received a rather...

    Wells Fargo Schofield - Authentication

Very interesting thread with a lot of good info. To the OP, it looks like a very nice pistol regardless of the WF markings. There was a pretty interesting discussion about 2 yrs ago regarding these surplus pistols...

44 Double Action Auction Results (Guns Added)

The nickel .44 looks dull and frosty like uncleaned old nickel. You can see a slight loss on the front edge of the cylinder/flutes and muzzle. I'd expect that to be an $1800 pistol but the grips, if they fit well, and short barrel may have pushed it up a little higher

    New model No.3 advice please..

That is correct, the cylinder will not click like on a Colt. For some reason it seems to be a common occurrence for the Japanese shipped NM #3 pistols to have mismatched cylinders. How far apart are the numbers? I'm willing to bet the cylinder you have is also from a Japanese shipped pistol.

44 Double Action Auction Results (Guns Added)

Gary you are absolutely right Looking at the pics of the pistol in question how could anyone label that pistol as being in "very good condition"?

44 Double Action Auction Results (Guns Added)

Notice they never listed it as being 44-40 just .44 caliber which could be either caliber...and the term Frontier could be used as in old west gun and not necessarily a model designation. Hate to sound like a lawyer but whomever bid it up should have known better just based on the poor nickel...

How much are we knocking a FACTORY refinished antique revolver?

I do not think you have correct info. For one to state all US marked pistols were refinished upon release from military duty is much too broad a statement. What about the examples that were lost or liberated by their owners? I went back and looked into the excellent S&W Collectors Handbook by...
