5946 on the Way ***Arrived with Pics***

In 2019, I decided to overhaul my 4586 with a spring kit from Wolff, a new grip and new Trijicon Novak sights. Plus new springs, followers and base pads for the magazines. I zero’d it at 25 yards and shot enough rounds to make a hole the size of my fist. The trigger is as short and smooth as...

    Lew Horton 5” 29-4?

The 5” guns point and balance so well, plus they look so stout. I knew someone who bought one and we went to the rock pit to sight it in. It was a nice shooter, way too much gun for the owner. I was a little jealous, I have the Classic Hunter 6” 686 with unfluted cylinders.

    Model 610

I vote FOUR INCH also. I packed a 6” 686-3 for a few years, then I stumbled into a 4” 586. I bring both guns on family camping trips, most prefer the 4” 586 with .38’s vs magnum loads. Get the 4” and never look back.

The most accurate Smith & Wesson auto...

The 845 of 1998 caught my eye. I saw the 845 and had to buy it to shoot IPSC. The 845 was the perfect pistol for me, a dedicated single-action competition gun that felt just like my 4506 duty gun. A DA/SA 4506 isn’t the ideal IPSC gun. The 845 was tight and the nitrate coated bushing...

    my 4506

Wolff spring kit The 4506 will feed empty cases - Tune it Up! Don’t worry about the slide play. The 3rd Gen S&W pistols were built for reliability first and accuracy second. The 4506 will be plenty accurate on paper.

    S&W 45's: Which one?

    We shoot a 200gr SWC over 5.5gr of W231 for a nice shooting 4586.

    S&W 45's: Which one?

Yes, $385 was a killer deal in ‘03 for a used duty gun. I didn’t know the history so I in stalled a Wolff spring kit, new Novak sights and new S&W grip. I bought my first 4586 new in ‘94 as my duty gun. The second gun went to my father for a HD pistol. The DAO trigger is less of a pull than...

    S&W 45's: Which one?

I’ll also suggest the 4506-1, it’s not terribly nose heavy and pleasant to shoot. The 4566 is a good option for a DA/SA, all SS pistol. How about the DAO 4586. The same strong 3rd Gen SS pistol with a trigger action better than a revolver. These pistols can be found for under $600. I have...

    New to me 5943

The S&W 3rd Gen DAO pistols are great guns and underrated. A 5943 is a good find. Brownells and Numrich are good places for parts. I’d suggest Ritchie Leather for a nice OWB holster.

    S&W 5906 - Broken?

Looks good to me. Every 3rd Gen pistol I’ve owned had some play. The 5906 is a stout pistol, if it’s in good shape then I’d say you’re good to go.

I let an "expert" look at my 4006

Ignore that Schmuck Any 3rd Gen police trade-in is a good deal. I’m kind of amazed there still are 3rd Gen pistols to trade-in. The last agency in my area that issue 3rd Gen pistols gave them up 14-15 years ago. 3rd Gen pistols are easy to tune-up and refinish, spare parts are available from...

    Model 1046 question...

I wish I held onto my 1086, I could ring a 16 inch plate at 100 yards with a 175 gr Winchester Silvertip. I've had my 4586 for 21 years, it's my desk gun in the den.

    New 4014

I wonder how many units S&W made of the model 4054? A retiring deputy ('95/'96) friend bought one as his new carry gun. A lightweight 4516 with a .40 cal barrel was my bucket list gun. I just never seem to find one

    Model 1046 question...

SCSW hasn't watched prices on Gunbroker the last few years. There are a few Forum Members who own the rare Model 1046. I believe the prices are between 2K+/- to 3K+/- depending on condition. The topic pops up every so often. I wish I had my model 1086 (10mm, DAO, 4.25" barrel) they made 1660...
