Great find Bill. Now if it was mine I would be heading to the range for a shakedown cruise. This sir would definately be a carry gun.

    38 special

Standard Catalog of Smith&Wesson 4th Addition says that with the Serial # you posted shows 1963-1965 however 10-5 sight width changed from 1/10" to 1/8" on tapered barrel models in 1962. 10-6 began in 1962 with trigger guard screw eliminated on Heavy Barrel models.

    S&W 65-6 3 inch .357

My 3" 65 gets carried with .38 special +p ammo and I can live quite well with that being suitable for social purposes. As I get older I find .357 does better in L and N frames for me. "A man has to know his limitations". :D

    Careful out there...

Every time we think we have all the answers someone changes the question. Anyone who has spent any amount of time in law enforcement can site instances where shootings not only by police but also by civilians where a combatant took multiple rounds and continued to stay in the fight occurred...

    j-frame pocket carry safety concern

When I pocket carry the only item in my pocket is my holstered 642. Safe, secure and easy to access. Proper training is always a must.

    642 and Buffalo Bore

I'm not real particular in regards to ammo brands as long as it is a known quality manufacture. I use 125 grain +p jacketed HP's in my 342 and 642. S&W reccommends +p jacketed ammo be used in the 342 and states so on the barrel. My 642 is +p rated and states on the barrel. Being able to place...

386 Sent To S&W For Repairs Returns

I had to send my 386 to S&W a few weeks ago because the lockup had become loose after shooting a few cylinders of Buffalo Bore Short Barrel Low Recoil Low Flash 125 grain .357's. The gun arrived home yesterday and the lockup was tight and the extractor and cylinder stop had been replaced. Went...

    642 Pocket Holster

I use a Remora for my 642 and when I begin the draw I pull down on the grip as the gun is exiting the pocket and the edge of the holster at the area of the trigger guard grabs the edge of the pants pocket and the holster stays in the pocket.

    4566 & LEOSA

I use my Glock 23 (personally purchased) which was my duty gun for several years (my last duty gun was the Glock 21SF department issued) for the semi auto qualification with 165 grain FMJFP ammo and my 3" round butt S&W 65 for my revolver qualification with .38 special 158 grain LSWC ammo...

My better than new S&W 642

Welcome to the forum Richard M. About 15 years ago Teddy Jacobson did a complete carry job on my 649 and it made a big difference in the double action trigger stroke. When my wife got her CCW the 649 became her carry gun. I picked up a 642 no dash a few years back and it makes a great pocket...
