Live round under the hammer question...

However, if you have bought the gun used, it might not be a bad idea to remove the side plate and make certain the block has not been removed. I have heard of this being done to target guns.

Novak rear sight hex key lock screw size?

Save yourself some time and trouble. Just buy a set of each in the smaller sizes. Sooner or later, you will need them.

    Anniversary of sorts

37 years ago today, I retired from the U.S. Marine Corps. It seems like only yesterday, but it was a half a lifetime ago for me.

    1911 slide

With the Marvel, the slide and barrel ore locked in place, only a mid-section of the slide moves. They give an accuracy gurantee, but they will cost you.

    Thank you for the $!

Usually, the annual raise is mostly offset by the annual increase in Medicare.

Do you remember "C" rations? If so, what was the worst and best?

Beanie weenies and spaghettie and meatballs were the best. I never could eat the sausage patties. I learned to eat, and even like, the ham and green lima beans. If you could eat those, you never went hungry.

What was the First Gun you purchased for yourself?

A Mossberg bolt action magazine fed .410 shotgun. My first pistol was a Colt 1911 with a 22 conversion unit. Bought it at Sears for 125 total.

Wanted: New Chief of Police, HONOLULU

When I was stationed in Hawaii in 1960, I bought a 1911 from a friend. It was British proof marked, and had a Remington slide. I was on a pistol team at the time, and the team armorer gave me a nice Colt slode to put on it, and taught me how to lap it in. When I took it down to the police...

Need help dating an old shotgun and a rifle

Since Winchester Model 70 reference info ends with the serial number 1537134 for 1982, I would say that this rifle was made some time after 1982. Bear in mind, that is already 27 years ago, so this could be valid even if he has had it for a "long time".

    Practicing a new language lately?

I had the same difficulty with Chinese. You have to hear it a lot to learn the proper tones for any word. I do read Japanese, but only techical material and material related to swords. Right now, I am trying to learn Korean using Rosetta Stone. I do not know why, since I will be 74 next...

Think about it -- Republic or Democracy???

I don't have time at the moment to read the whole thread, but the following comes to mind. "I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to The Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
