Yet again, Im raising this thread from the dead because I have the same issue with my Schofield. Seems to be a pattern here with these (dings on the back of the cylinder). Funny how S&W determined that this is "normal" :(

I dont know if it is unlatching and then relatching or not. There is a very slight about of play in the latch when I wiggle the barrel and frame but the gun actually feels pretty tight. There is about .007" inch of front to back movement of the cylinder. I dont know if shimming to reduce that...

I use Dextron II ATF and fine bronze steel wool to remove surface rust. Rub very gently. If there is rusty scale, I use a pre-1982 copper penny to scrape the rust off. Hornady Hot Shot is a good rust preventive to follow up with.

I dont think submerging the whole gun is going to do what you want for it. It really needs to be completely dissasembled or at the very least, the side cover needs to come off. I soak my gun parts in mineral spirits. If there is rust, I use Kroil. Id never soak a blued gun in Kroil for a long...

Ahhh. Ok I understand now. The extractor stud is under spring tension I guess until the barrel is closed. I am still not sure how or if that stud can be extended. There is no provision on this base pin to turn it unless it is threaded. I cant tell if it is threaded or pressed into the frame. At...
