    Interesting questin: How many rounds?

While in the Marines in the late 60's I was involved in a few firefights. I don't ever recall wishing that I had LESS ammo. But....... I carry a 1911 now. If 8 rounds in the gun & a spare mag isn't enough ammo to get me out of whatever trouble I've gotten into, then I don't need a gun with more...

    summer carrry

I'm 6', 175 lbs; so I don't have a lot of "padding" on my hips. My EDC's are a Glock 23 or one of my 1911s. Sticking one of them inside my pants & cinching a belt tight over them is not comfortable for me. I have a whole box full of IWB holsters that I've tried to tolerate to prove it. I've...

Recommendation for a holster to fit my gun.

I like Lobo's Enhanced Pancake model. If I were planning to carry my 686 concealed, that's the route I'd go. (Concealed for me is covering it up with my shirt tail.) As much as I like my revolvers, I'm just not ready yet to give up my 1911's as EDC weapons.

Recommendation for a holster to fit my gun.

I got a Bianchi 5BHL, (for a 5" 629), from Amazon for mine. It's not custom molded for the 686, but it fits fine & was only $60. I have the same model holster in 6" for my 629 & I tested the 686 fit in that one before ordering the 5". Amazon.com: Bianchi 5BHL Thumbsnap Holster - S&W 629 N...

Right decision? 686 Plus Pro Series

Hey, I'm glad you're getting to shoot yours! I bought a 686+, 5", Pro Series two weeks ago & haven't been able to shoot it. We have a 1/2 mile lane & a pretty steep hill going back to my gun club & there's still about 2' of snow & ice on it.

Anyone own a 686 Plus Pro Series revolver?

Yes. I bought one two weeks ago. I like the looks & feel of it but............. nobody's been able to plow the 2+ feet of snow & ice to get back to my gun club's range, so I haven't been able to shoot it yet.

    No 2400?

Thanks everybody for the suggestions. I'm a 1911 fanboy & have been using W231 for years in the .45ACP. While it may not be the "ideal" powder, it'll work for my intended purposes, which is mostly playing at the range & to scare large critters away while in the woods.

    No 2400?

Loading LSWC in both .357 & .44 Mag. 2400 looks like the obvious first choice, but there's none available around here. What's everybody's second choice?

    No 2400?

Since my retirement I've gotten re-interested in revolvers after shooting bottom feeders almost exclusively for the last 25 years. I recently picked up a very nice 629 in a trade, then went out & bought a new 686 5" Pro Series. I want to start reloading cast bullets. I have 500 158 gr...

What's your favorite concealed carry firearm? Pics?

Ever since I bought it a few years ago my EDC has been a Springfield Armory TRP 1911 in a Raven Concealment holster. Occasionally a Glock 23 in a Raven Concealment. I retired four months ago, so dress-up for me is having to tuck my shirt tail in. For those rare occasions, I carry my 642 in a...

What revolvers are "essential" to any S&W collection?

    Well, I have a 1985(ish) 6" 629, a new 5" 686 Pro Series & a 642. I don't see the need for any others (today).

    School me on sights

I just bought a 686+ Pro yesterday & that's how mine works. I'm considering changing mine out with a fiber optic model. .250 is standard height correct?

    Dumb question

I'm the proud owner of a new 686 5" Pro Series. It comes with moon clips. I've only ever used speed loaders. When not using the moon clips, the cartridge rim is only in contact with a small portion of the cylinder. It's OK to load & shoot without the moon clips, right?
