crooked roll mark on new 686

I would talk to S&W about sending it back. However, I am the guy who has all the presidents looking the same direction in my wallet, arranged by denomination. The wrenches and screwdrivers, and everything else in my toolbox are all lined up by size. My guns always get field stripped and...

S&W warranty repairs..what would you do?

I had the same issue with my new 686+. First time at the range. Rear sight adjusted far right to even get it close at 7 yds. When I cleaned it I noticed an unusual amount of copper (green) on the patches. I returned it, it came back in less than 2 weeks. The paperwork says what they did was...

    "Ammoload" headstamp on 9x19 brass

Except it say "AMMOLOAD" not "AMMOLAND".

    Should he be charged?

Minnesota Here in Minnesota, you need to have three things going for you to pull a gun. 1. You must have legitimate fear of death or serious harm. (Fail) 2. You must have no other option. You have a duty to retreat if you can. (Fail) 3. A carry permit (Unknown) In Minnesota, this guy...

    Smith & Wesson repair turnaround

I had a similar problem on my brand new 686+. The cylinder wasn't lining up quite right, as I understand it. They replaced a part and relined the barrel. I got it back inside of 2 weeks, all free. Works perfect now.

    Mags loaded or unloaded?

Insignificant Sure, there is an effect, but it is not significant. I keep a mag loaded with SD ammo and after maybe 6 months I shoot it. Then I load a different mag with the fresh SD ammo. Insignificant Problem pretty much solved. If the springs ever show signs of weakness replacements...

    J Frame quality issues

As far as who acquired who, there are often advantages financially for a smaller company to technically acquire the larger one. The smaller company can even use cash reserves and assets of the larger company to pay off it's debt it incurred to buy the big company. The management of the two...

    Barrel alignment problem

Been there. My new 686 had that problem. I had to adjust the rear sight ALL the way to it's limit to hit anything and even then it was not quite right. They corrected it and relined the barrel, but I sure didn't expect that sort of problem. I chose it over a Ruger because I thought I was...

    Range report 637

Thanks for the shooting glove idea. I love my 637. I surprise myself with how accurately I can shoot it, but I have a bit of neuropathy in my trigger finger and this gun really wants to slam the trigger guard into my fingertip with each shot. In an emergency situation that wouldn't be...

    Lubrication

I can't seem to find that exact stuff online, but I'm thinking most any reasonably heavy-ish grease would do. I have some MIL-COM TW25B and some Frog-lube grease at home. I imagine those would be okay too.

    Cool, Thanks!

    Lubrication

I have two new S&W revolvers, 686 and a 637. There doesn't seem to be anything in the manuals about lubrication. About all I have done is put a drop of oil on the cylinder. That seems to make it spin more freely, which seems like a good thing ... unless it's not for some reason. What do you...

    22 magnum snub nose?

Sometimes I think we sell the ladies a little short. My lovely 120 lb. wife shoots .38 special +P and 9mm without a problem, and she is no weightlifter. She is fierce, though. It just took a couple trips to the range for her to get over the fear factor. Those range trips should be mandatory if...

    stainless revolvers vs polymer guns

I used to own a Ruger P95, a Glock 19, and a S&W BG380. All are gone now. People rave about Glock reliability, but that was not my experience with any of these. For me, the Ruger was the best of these for accuracy and reliability, but none were dead reliable. I hated the trigger on the Glock...
