Looking for a range bag for my 586

I had a Midway range bag. While it's a great value for general range use, it did not stand up to heavy use (at least for me). And if it ever gets wet, it takes days to dry out. BTW I think Bagmaster may be out of business. Their web site has been inactive for a couple of year. Some heavier...

    44 Magnums and Beyond

Perhaps you should be thinking of a Freedom Arms revolver next, since you like shooting very stout loads. Or for pure fun, a Ruger Alaskan. Good flamethrower.

    642 a good first J-frame choice?

Thanks to everyone for their responses. I'm going to head down to my LGS in a couple of days and look at them. Will post pics if I pick one up.

    642 a good first J-frame choice?

Good to know, thanks. I looked at the fine print on the ad and they are selling the SKU 103810 (some SS) and 150544 (black) versions at least - no internal lock.

    642 a good first J-frame choice?

Right now my "lightweight" carry revolver is an SP101 (I also carry a CCO 1911 some of the time) but I've been thinking about getting a lighter one for a while. I had been leaning towards an LCR but am now thinking about a 642 for a couple of reasons. First, I think I should have at least on...

    Model 629, How strong?

I shoot 240 gr hard cast and use AA#9. The manual lists the range as 18.1-20.2 gr. At the same bullet weight, the HDY XTP range is 18.5-20.5 gr, slightly higher than lead. There is no 300 gr hard cast load listed, as others have noted, but the XTP range is 14.8-16.5 gr. So 17 gr seems like a...

Which 686 or 627 for target shooting?

Sweet guns. I rarely see nice old revolvers at my LGS, and when they do come in they get snapped up before I have a chance at them. Frustrating.

Which 686 or 627 for target shooting?

Thanks to all who responded. All very useful info. I'll post my purchase when I make a final decision. @Neumann - why does a two-piece barrel require periodic maintenance by S&W?

Which 686 or 627 for target shooting?

Casual target shooting. I hadn't thought about a scope as I've been honing my skills with iron sights. Nice idea.

Which 686 or 627 for target shooting?

I can see there is a difference between the 686 and 627 models due to the L/N frame size difference, but will there be much difference between, say, all the 686 models?

Which 686 or 627 for target shooting?

I'm thinking about adding to my collection by getting another .357/.38 revolver for target shooting. At the moment I have a 4" GP100 that I use for that purpose - a good gun without a doubt but I'd like to see if I can do better. I had a 6" GP100 but sold it because I didn't like how it balanced...

    S&W 44 Magnum Purchase

I target shoot with a 5" 629. I just like the balance better than the longer barrels. If you reload, consider the Penn 185 gr DBBWC bullets (for target only).

    Is my revolver rare?

Wow that is a pretty gun. I keep scouring my area for a .32 but have yet to see one for sale.

Went for dog food, came back with a 19-5...

Last time I went for dog food, I came back with another dog....I'm no longer allowed to go for dog food. You did well, congrats
