    638 vs. Model 38

My mod 38 developed a cracked frame just below the barrel forcing come. Was fortunate to get a replacement 638 from S&W. I purchased the 38 new and fired only standard velocity 38 (very few rounds fired). Saw on the internet that some mod 38 barrels were installed incorrectly which caused the...

    Norma 222 in woodgrained box

Back in '73, '74, and '75, Norma in the woodgrain box was sold in the American Rod and Gun clubs throughout West Germany. I think that was about the only brand they sold. It was a lot cheaper then as was everything. I bought a S&W Mod 29, 8 and 3/8" barrel at the Wiesbaden R&G club. Paid 217.00...

    Airweight frame CRACK???

Unfortunately you are correct. I had a Mod 38 with a similar crack in the same location. The crack in my Smith was a little wider than yours. I sent mine back to S&W for evaluation. They confirmed the frame was cracked and returned the grips. Several weeks later they replaced it with a new 638...

    Model 38 price

Look under the forcing cone at the very thin portion of the frame under it. My mod 38 frame cracked at this point after very few standard 38 special rounds. I read that the barrels may have been screwed too tight. S&W replaced it with a mod 638.

    S&W customer service needs help

I mailed a revolver with a cracked frame (under warranty) several months ago. Took them two weeks to get back to me that it was not repairable and would be replaced. Various calls have resulted in "your replacement gun is sitting on my desk now" followed by " it's backordered" followed by "it's...

Nice Charter Arms Undercover .38 spl. for sale FTF in Atlanta. I bought this revolver new about 35 years ago for my parents. They kept it in a nightstand all those years. I'm sure it has fired less than 50 rounds total. It's small, lightweight, and very concealable. Asking 250.00. Might trade...

    military sniper rifle question?

No, I've never held or seen one. All my knowledge of them comes from an AMERICAN RIFLEMAN article. Every point made in my reply to the original question came directly from the article(including the point that it resembles the M4) Thanks for an entertaining reply.

    military sniper rifle question?

The current trend for the US military is to go more to the Knight semi-auto 7.62. The ability to fire consecutive rounds without having to work the bolt and the ability to maintain constant vision thru the scope being the main pluses. It resembles the M4 which does not identify its' user as a...

    Polishing S&W revolver trigger surfaces

Has anyone tried the method of improving a Smith revolver trigger as shown on Utube by Larry Potterfield of MidwayUSA? It involves honing (polishing) sear and trigger surfaces with a fine India stone and I'm a little concerned that since these are case hardened parts that honing might cut away...
