    Exploded Views of Semi-Auto Pistols

I would be most grateful if someone can help me locate an exploded view of a Model 4596 (or similar) Semi-Auto with the associated parts key. This is an all steel pistol assembled from a 4506 receiver and a 4516 slide. About 400 of these were made as Lew Horton "specials" in 1990. I am...

    Concealment Holsters for Model 4596

I'm having a terrible time figuring out how to post a new picture of my 4596, but will do it as soon as I figure it out. I have put some photos of the pistol on this site earlier. Meanwhile, if you use the "search" function, I think you can find them. Thanks for your help and interest. Lostman

    Concealment Holsters for Model 4596

4596s were Lew Horton guns; a one-time production run of less than 400 units. If my recollection is correct, they were cobbled together from a 4506 receiver and a 4516 slide. Eight plus one rounds, 3-inch barrel, square trigger guard. It is a really great, smooth-shooting pistol with no bad...

    Concealment Holsters for Model 4596

I own a Model 4596. Since less than 400 of these were made, holsters have been difficult to find. The pancake holster made by Strong that I've used for years is getting pretty worn and I'd like to replace it. Can anyone suggest a source?

    Model 4596

I am hoping to gather the experience of other owners of the Model 4596. This is a limited production (approx. 400 manufactured) Lew Horton gun. I am a retired law enforcement officer who has used and carried this exceptional pistol for years. I have found mine (Serial Number TFA3762) to be...

    4506-1 Safe Carry

I have carried a 4596 (which uses the same receiver, but a shorter slide) as a duty weapon and off-duty sidearm since 1990 in just the condition you describe. It has remained safe and instantly available through numerous struggles with suspects, chases, falls, bumps entering and exiting cars...

Smith & Wesson Does Not Honor Written Warranty

I own several S & Ws, but have only had one experience with a warantee claim and it was very positive. Recently, I noticed a crack in the main body of the safety of my 4596, which I've used as a duty weapon and carry piece for more than 20 years. S & W repaired and returned the gun within 15...

Experiences with S&W stainless steel .45's

I've been gone from the forum for a while, but this thread caught my eye straight away when I checked in today. I've been interested to see some experience info. with stainless Smith .45s, so I'm delighted to see this discussion. I have a 4596, which I carried as a duty weapon for 12 years...

Lew Horton Guns - New Member Question

More on Model 4596 Thanks to OKFC05 I got connected to Lew Horton's and put my questions about the origin of this model variant to them. Here is their response in full: "The gun you own is in fact a Lew Horton's exclusive Special Edition produced for us by Smith & Wesson in April of 1990. We...

Lew Horton Guns - New Member Question

Thanks for the info. on the mysterious Lew Horton. I've sent them a note to find out what they can tell me about the history of 4596s. I'll share their answer with the forum as soon as I get it.

    Model 4596

Thanks for the reply! I'd prefer the flatter, thinner levers, too, but that is not what was furnished with my pistol. I should be quick to add, though, that I regularly use my pistol as a carry piece and have not found it to be much of a problem.

    Model 4596

Thanks for the info. on your 4596! I've had a somewhat different experience: My 4596 has served first as my duty weapon, then as my carry piece for about 20 years with virtually no failures, stoppages or problems, save for a crack recently discovered in the main body of the safety. (S & W...

Lew Horton Guns - New Member Question

Thanks! Your reply makes me wonder whether the whole production run of 4596s like mine (less than 400 total) were all marketed by Lew Horton, and to whom.
