I have a 625-4. Clean, low round count, Ahrends grips, chamfered cyls, smoothed trigger, gold bead front sight.
This is the last prelock, hammer mounted firing pin model w/ no mim parts.
PM me if interested
I have heard the frame mounted firing pin models (625-6 and on) can have issues if not using moon clips. I remember seeing an extended firing pin on Brownells that is supposed to address that.
Never heard of hammer mounted firing pin models (625-2,3,4) having that issue.
Ran across a website like this about 6 years ago and was shocked to find out how horrible most popular brands of dog food really are.
Switched my crew to Candidae All Life Stages, everyone likes it and does well on it.
Even so called "premium brands like Iams and Science Diet are absolute...
Considering selling my 625-4 5 bbl".
Look it up, the 625-3 and the 625-4 are the most desirable.
Has Ahrends grips, gold dot front sight, & cylinder chamfer.

I had questions similar to yours. I emiled Ahrends, Kim Ahrends emailed me back thoroughly explaining what I needed to know and then some.
I was even more impressed when I got the grips.
Ahrends all the way.
While I don't use my 44 magnum as the go to home defense gun, I have peace of mind knowing it is there for me should I have a potentially deadly encounter with Sasquatch or something like that.
Hell yes, if anyone can find a clean -3 or -4 in the 500-600 dollar range, they should jump on it without hesitation.
If there was a -5, it was the mountain gun variety I believe.
The regular 625 went -2, -3, -4, -6, -8.
I love my 625-4, but I would never carry a .45 wheelgun for CCW.
These things are great range and competition guns and they are adequate for home defense IMO.
Forget the 325, the lightweight, yet big frame takes the fun out of shooting this round. The steel frame 625 absorbs the recoil...
The 'model of 1988's were 625-2's.
I have heard the 625-2's had an issue with the hand mechanism that is easy to correct. All 1989's are 625-3 and later.
The only models I have heard have an issue firing w/o moon clips were some of the frame mounted firing pin models and that can be corrected...
