Everybody. I own two shields a 9 and a 40. The tight spring just needs time. Both of mine were so tight I could hardly rack them back. I left them in the racked back position for about a week. Problem solved. It seems a lot a people are making a mountain out of a mole hill.
I had the same issue. Easily fixed. I left the slide racked back for 1 week. It was fine and was way easier. Then after putting about 200 rounds through it it got even easier. I've shared this with a few other shield owners and it worked for them as well.
I left mine locked back for about 5 days and it made a huge difference. After that it was no problem to operate the slide.

Mine was tough too and I left the slide racked back for about 4 days. Its been fine ever since. Fired over 1000 rounds not one issue.

I just shot some 165gr Hornady Critical Defense rounds through my 40 Shield about 30 mins ago. I wanted to try them to see if I had the same issues. No issues at all. Really accurate ammo.

First time posting. I have a 40 shield, fired around 400 rounds of various ammo with not one single issue. Out of all the pistols I've owned this one is by far my favorite and the one I carry every day. My first round fired date from s&w is 10/2013. Thanks for this thread and hope this helps...
