I don't shoot my 642 a lot for the same reasons you mentioned. Mine is five years old with about 500 rounds through it with no signs of wear. Its so easy to carry, I love it.

I decided to buy a 686 also. The dealer I usually buy from said $625 for a new 4 inch 6 shot. That's a pretty good price isn't it?
