    SERIAL # ? , S&W Pre model 28 5 screw HIGHWAY PATROLMAN

I recently traded a used 2nd generation Glock 22 (maybe $350 value) for this 112,XXX numbered specimen. I was thinking it was an early 1955 vintage from what I have read but perhaps.....earlier? That would be cool as I'm of 1954 vintage myself. It's a bit worn for it's nearly 60 years but...

    Model 29 size and finish

The classic 6.5" will always be my first love. A stainless 6" is pretty hard to beat too. For a mix of old and new....I have a 4 screw frame that was a sad victim of neglect. It has had it's original barrel replaced with a 5" underlug and a matte blue finish.

The ultimate Highway Patrolman thread.including N frame ser# ranges

Over the years, I've owned a number of 28's including one of the uncommon 28-3 shown in the first pics. Nothing at all wrong with it but I never did warm up to it like the older pinned and recessed. Traded it away but recently acquired a decent pre-28 5 screw 4". Not bad shape considering it...

    Model 34

Can't add much to what has already been said....but I can contribute a pic of one that passed through my hands. I have a 4" blued version presently that has definately seen better days cosmeticly but still an excellent shooter.

    NAPA Strikes Again

redlevel, I would have been all over a M19 for that price. Congrats. If those grips came with it.......even better. They look like rosewood targets? Although neglected, I'm betting they will clean up very nicely. I also, have a bit of a soft spot for abused S&W's. I have a M36 that had...

    No love for the M27-3???

skeezix, Yours looks to be a twin of the one I am considering. Nice pic! Sounds like I'd better jump on it for the price. Only thing....that 4" barrel length has just never "done it" for me. I've owned a number of 27-2's over the years but 3 1/2", 5", 6 1/2" and 8 3/8". Sure wish I "still"...

    No love for the M27-3???

Thanks guys. Helpful info. Sorry that you got the idea the pic was of the M27-3 in question. It is actually of a 3" Lew Horton 624. I always like seeing good photos in posts so I just threw it in. Sorry for the confusion.

    No love for the M27-3???

Seeking some info on the M27-3 I've been offered. Tried the search function without success and skimmed the last dozen pages or so but found only one reference to a 27-3 and that was a commerative. The one I am looking at has a 4" barrel, red ramp, white outline, football target grips and...

Model 60-4 3" Target? How many were made?

M60-4 I had my eye out for one of these for quite a while before I came across this one at a local show. Score.....and the price was good too! Interesting that the others shown have casehardened hammer and trigger while mine have stainless finish.

    Grip Refinishing

I used Citri-Strip to get all the old finish off mine and then sprayed on several thin coats of the Min-Wax product shown. I forgot to shoot "before" pics but I'm pretty happy with the "after" results. On the J frame targets....I masked off the checkering until the last couple of coats. You...

    624 thread

Now you did it! I've got a real weakness for 624's.... here's mine....a 4" with Farrar grips and a 3" Lew Horton shown with several different grips. Refinished factory combats, Spegel boot grips and some fake mother of pearl Jay Scott's just for grins. Can you tell I'm fond of good knives as...

    What's the going rate for a 657-3?

Thanks for the input fellas. Pretty much my thinking as well but I haven't tried to lean on the dealer yet to see just how much he will give.

    What's the going rate for a 657-3?

I've been looking to add a .41 Mag to the S&W pile and came across this 6" in pretty decent shape. A good shooter....not a pristine collectible. The asking price is $700. So what are they going for in your area? Thanks in advance for any input.

    Stainless and basketweave leather.

Can I play??? Although the M624 isn't pinned and the Bianchi basketweave is black not brown....I still think they make for a nice combo.

    LOOK WHAT I GOT TODAY

Nice! A twin to my very first S&W, purchased new in 1975 when I had just turned 21. As I recall, mine came with target grips and the price was.....$154. Had a local smith add target trigger/hammer and do an action job. Loved that gun, sure wish I still had it. Sadly it was traded off when...
