Yep...if the safety is off the hammer should stay back. Something's broken. Our dept. went to Mod. 59's in 1976. I still have mine and it is still more accurate than I can be. :)

Get the largest zip lock bag you can find. Reassemble inside the bag. When things fly apart they 1. won't hit you in the face & 2. won't fly across the room never to be seen again. Please do not ask me how I know this. :)

I would recommend a telephone call to customer service. The plugs are small enough Customer Service just might send them free. But have your credit card handy when you make the call. I've ordered several small things from S&W and never a hitch. Good luck

You can also call S&W Customer service. The company will send you one for free. That's how I got mine. It took about a week.
